chuck the puck?

Should I?
I have a CD3 and that little puck (for want of a better naim) ends up all over the place - including inside the works.
I have enough in the pot to move up.
Someone says Densen is OK and no such device
what say you?

May be a matter of technique.
Hold the puck 1/4-1/2 inch or so above the spindle and drop it. Watch it land and as long as its not way off, you should be fine. This works better than trying to 'place' it, in my experience. I only lost one puck inside my CD3 and that's when I was demoing it at the dealers and didn't know about the drop method.

I say Densen is OK too. Why not go and have a listen.

My daughter (not yet 3) quite happily loads my CD5, she's only had 1 'puck event' so far.
By all means, try the Densen but don't give up on Naim just because of this design feature.

Not the magnet, but the little rubber loops that help hold the CD in place. You should be able to get a replacement puck from your local dealer.

The CD3 is a great player. Invest £10 in a new puck (the new ones are lighter and sound a bit better anyway) and keep it OUT OF THE PLAYER when not in use. It'll stay more 'sticky' if you do. I have never spun the puck off inside my CD3.
I use a CD3 and a CDSII and keep my pucks upside down in a little plastic bag, to keep them clean.
Or; why not spend a bit of money having the CD3 serviced. Mine has a new transport and some associated electronics and sounds nothing like the old CD3.
Love it a bit; and it'll love you back!

Definitely buy the Densen and sell me the CD3!

The Densen B400 sucks, imho. I haven't heard the B400XS, but I'd like to.
Naim CD players are rather good. I only have puck problems with certain slightly thinner CDs.
Regards,
Steve.

I only devote 3 hours a day to 'puck worship'
You make a good point re cleaning the playing surfaces. Naim players are rather demanding of having the mating surfaces of puck and platter kept clean.
I can only re-affirm that I have found (through several Naim CD players) that keeping the puck out of the machine is very worthwhile.
