AV2 Display ?
Posted by: Charles Paterson on 01 February 2010
My display went mad last night by flashing on & off continuously, the only way I could get it to stop was to do a reset, then it wouldn't start & this took another 2 resets before it would.
Does anyone have any ideas ?

In my experience both the DVD5 and AV2 occasionally "throw a wobbler" (about once a month) when they will refuse to respond to the remote, give w-dog errors etc etc.
These things are basically dedicated computers, and like all computers occasionally have to be switched off completely when they refuse to cooperate. Of course, some of our Trade members may have more useful suggestions. 8-)

Hi, Charlie. Didn't look at the poster so didn't realise it was you. My Chord leads for the Oppo have just arrived at my dealer, along with my DVD5 back from Naim. I must go across and collect them tomorrow.

Hello John, I know the AV2 has it's odd moments it's just that this one is a completely new one on me.
Let us know how you get on with the OPPO & the leads.

Hi,
I can't help about the AV2's display (though I have owned a DVD5 and it was occasionally weird), but have an Oppo. May I know what is >Oppo and leads< about, if it's not personal and I don't break forum rules?
Thanks,
Massimo

Very simple. My DVD5 is being ousted from DVD playing duties by my new Oppo BD83SE bluray player. I am going to connect this to my AV2 using the Oppo's analogue outputs (it has its own decoder for DVD and bluray sound) to my Naim AV2, which does not have HDMI inputs. I have only just got the appropriate 5pin DIN to 4 RCA phono leads today, and will carry out the connection tomorrow, as it involves dismantling my AV system to get at the wiring which is all hidden in conduits. OK? 8-)

Ok, thanks.
I ventured asking because I suspected that some special cable was available for the Oppos in general, like mains or the sort.
Hope I didn't sound nosy.

No problem. 8-)
Well, I've finally got my AV system back together (see my profile)
The usual "touch the phono plugs" on the 4phono to 5pin DIN to see which lead was going to work which speaker failed completely (no buzz)
Powered it up, switched on the Sony 710 activity - no sound. In fact, no sound on any inputs. Carefully checked the connections again (no small task) and played something into the 282 - worked fine. Tried an analogue phono input on the AV2 worked fine. Tracked down the problem on the 710 to a broken optical digital socket, which I couldn't do a "bodge" fix on, so I suppose I'll just have to use its analogue output for now. Went into speaker setup on the AV2 to try and use "TST on" - the bloody thing would only show two speakers and wouldn't let me do anything else. Eventually finished up doing a factory reset and re-entered my settings. Normality resumed, except still no sound on optical digital from the Sony 710.
I still need to set up the Oppo's analogue outputs (using a test disc), but that will have to wait until Saturday when we return from visiting our youngest daughter and her little girl (22 months). Then I might get around to seeing if all the fuss required to use the Oppo's analogue HD audio output was worth the effort (God, my aching back) 8-)

You're not having a very easy time of it at the moment John!
I'm looking forward to your feedback on the sound quality from the analogue outs of the Oppo.

I'll post my Oppo comments as part of a new thread.
