26" LCD TV wanted
Posted by: JamieWednesday on 18 June 2008
Rare visit over this side of the fence.
I'm looking for a 26" LCD TV which will be fed by SKY box and HDMI equipped DVD player. It will be in the study for when either I'm exiled to watch the cricket, or I get my way and the kids can go and watch Nick Jr or DVD's in (my) peace...
The Sony and Philips 26" models look good and seem to get good write ups from users on Amazon etc., want the usual: Decent picture, sound and reliability.
Any recs?

Sony Bravias are good, make sure you're certain which one you're being sold though, they all look the same and those Sony Centre people are unscrupuless! I would say go for a good "HD Ready" rather than "Full HD", at 26" with DVDs there is little point. Set the DVD player to output 720p so the TV isn't downscaling it after your DVD has upscaled it! I would also look at Samsungs, I like them, own one. Have a look on Richer Sounds website, they have both a 26" Bravia, and Samsung, print off the web pages then visit a shop and see which you prefer! That's what I'd do anyway. (You need the printout as they let you pay the cheaper website price in store if you say you saw it online.)

I took delivery of a Panasonic TX26LXD70 at the weekend, and am very pleased with it. If you shop around you can get it on the Internet for around £480.

My vote goes to Panasonic Jamie. Like Nigel I've got the 26" one, installed in the kitchen, & it's superb.
"Which?" give Panasonic LCD TVs their highest marks.

Thanks guys. I note they're about to change their models again(!), so lower prices coming soon I guess (about £430 seems best right now).
