CD5 review ?

For one, Stereophile reviewed the CD5 in april 2001, adding three dollar sign for huge Value for Money.

I have Arcam Alpha 8CD/Nait2 and plan to upgrade cd to Alpha 9 or even buy CD5.
Is your CD5 so much better than Alpha 9?
I would like to hear your comments.

The Alpha 9 was fine value for money and brought Arcam up to date against its competition at the time. But even then, the CD3.5 was already ahead of the 9 in pure music terms.

The CD5 is a lot better than a 3.5 in all the areas where the 9 came close. So the CD5 should beat an alpha9 quite happily (putting it mildly).

you should be able to access the review via the Stereophile website. It doesn't hurt anyhow to Google something like "naim audio cd5" and see what turns up.

On the other hand, we're talking about reviews. They're all bound to be good, but ultimately you'll have to listen yourself. Incidentally, hasn't the Arcam Alpha 9 cdp already been retired in favor of those unattractive DiVa outfits?

You'd have to compare the CD5 with the Arcam FMJ23, and I'll bet you'll prefer the Naim by a long shot.
