Placement on Shelf - Left, Right, Centre?

Posted by: markjp on 18 April 2002

Having recently purchased an Ash Designs 7 shelf rack I can now place all my equipment on seperate shelves.

My question is what is the best positioning on the shelf for my half width NAP140, HiCap and NAC62. I understand that the proximity to other equipment may make it worthwhile positioning these items either left, right or centrally on the shelf.

Currently my equipment is set up as follows:-

1. CD3.5
2. NAC62 (centre on shelf)
3. Arcam Alpha 8 Tuner
4. Marantz CDR
5. Flatcap
6. NAP140 (centre on shelf)
7. HiCap (centre on shelf)

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

As a fellow half-width user, IMHO,

1>......CD3.5.......
2>NAC62.............
3>......Arcam.......
4>.....Marantz......
5>.....Flatcap......
6>............NAP140
7>HiCap.............

Where are the transformers in you Arcam & Marantz? That could change things.

If you don't mind bending over a lot, switching everything so that the 3.5 and 62 are on the bottom shelves should be sonically ideal.

Mike,

Is there a reason to have them at the bottom?
I believe the magnetic fields from the transformer does both ways up & down.

Furthermore, I would like to think having heavier stuff (Power Amp & Hi-Cap) at the bottom will help in mechenical stability.
