cdps..

Question:

I have a cd3 or 3.5 or 5 and any amp/speakers..

Answer:

Buy a cdx you will see a noticeable improvement. You could buy a *cap and use it as an interim phase, then switch it to the preamp and buy a cdx.

Question:-

I have a cdx and any amp/speakers

Answer:-

Buy an xps. You wont regret it.

Question

I have a cdx/xps and any amp/speakers

Answer

Buy an cds2. You will hear a noticable improvement.

Record players

1. Record players sound better than cds.

2. There are only two brands worthwhile considering:- Linn and Rega. If it is Linn, upgrade as soon as possible with Naim Aro/Armageddon.

Preamps.

1. A more expensive Naim preamp is better than a cheaper one with a power supply.

2. Be aware of anyone waxing lyrical about a 52. They are possibly the same person who are advertising their own one for sale on loot/ebay as they wish to upgrade to a 552

Power amps.

1. A more expensive one is better than a cheaper one.

2. No point going active until at least 135s.

Power supplies

1. 9/10 customers say that one super is better than two cheapie hi's

Speakers.

I could still pick up some pointers here for stock answers.. but..

1. You have cred points if you own old Linn speakers notably Isobarik or Kans. Zero cred for owning new Linn models

2. SBL's .. You either love em or hate em, but sometimes hate turns to love if you have Mana underneath them.

3. certain other (non -Naim) brand of speakers such as Royd, Shahinian, Neat, Rega are acceptable if people really must.

Tuners

1. Nobody really cares too much, providing it is made by Naim.

Cables.

1. The only acceptable is cable is Naim.

2. Anyone using other brands of cable are treated with immense suspision and warned that their guarantee may no longer be valid.

3. Black Snaics (cables that come with items such as hicaps) are better than Grey ones (used on older models.

Stands/supports

1. When people are bored alway good to start a discussion on stands to generate some excitement.

2. There is a general view that Naim Fraim is overpriced. This view however is not possibly shared by Mick Parry who seems to be very upset that he bought a Hutter rack shortly before Fraim was launched.

3. Mana cures all ills. In fact if the National Health Service got rid of all of its beds and placed mattresses on Mana supports, Old age pensioners who have had a hip replacement would be walking a lot quicker, thus saving the NHS money.

4. The difference in sound quality between adding an extra Mana soundstage from 8 to 9 under any piece of equiptment makes an improvement in sound at least as equal of upgrading an Arcam alpa cd player to a Naim cds11

5. Anybody who doesn't think Mana is the best thing since the invention of the wheel is liable to have their sexual orientation questioned.

People.

1. It is Ok to wind up Mick Parry

2. Anything ever uttered by Vuk is considered gospel unless it is on US foreign policy where his comments are not looked on so well (epecially by the Israeli contingent)

Ok. Thats about all I have learnt from the forum so far. Is there anything else I should have picked up?

You are not a good pupil.
Can't you see that all the members here are agents
of Paul Stephenson?

"Power amps.

Yes, I hope so..; the opposite would be sad...

"Black Snaics (cables that come with items such as hicaps) are better than Grey ones (used on older models)":
that is true (Just try!). But HMS interconnects are better.

"No point going active until at least 135s."
Naim amps are not made to work in passive bi or tri-amplification.Thats why people change their amps for better ones. The last step is also going active with 3 Nap135s. (but there are many good steps before...)

"Be aware of anyone waxing lyrical about a 52. They are possibly the same person who are advertising their own one for sale on loot/ebay as they wish to upgrade to a 552"

Oh YES, please sell me a NAC52!!!!!

"Question:-

Answer:-

Buy an xps. You wont regret it."
Yes , that is a quality of Naim'system: there are upgradable; This a great way to better a system at a lower cost.

Yes, the source is the most important... Speakers are the least...

"Record players sound better than cds"
This is not my opinion but many people (in the whole world) say that.

"9/10 customers say that one super is better than two cheapie hi's"
OH YES, it is... but a cheapy supercap is better than an expensive one. wink

The only point I agree with you is concerning the stands: Naim 's are really too expensive!!And I don't think a stand can transform a system. confused

Just stop smoking! (or begin) wink

belsizepark,

I don't know about the Mosad, but Mana are trying hard to enter their agents to this forum...
And with a great success, we must admit...

You know that great football players and racing drivers are paid loads of cash to use particular items e.g. Pepsi Cola or Tag watches, is it possible that Vuk has been paid to preach the Mana gospel on this forum?

Excellent digest Michael

as far as the hardware goes the entire Hifi Corner can be wiped now. Your list will do.

The only problem is the people part.

You got Mick all wrong. He can't help sounding like Mrs T's little brother. But in reality he's a more generous member of society than most of us. He planted a tree, for godsake, future generations are going to enjoy more than he does, and that's what he enjoys so much about it.

Vuk same thing. He's a funny man. He sounds real sure, but in reality he's too scared of the coffee to get out of bed in the morning.

Chaps

My learning points after 3 dedicated years on this forum are as follows

1. People who run 52/CDS11/135 set ups are generally real cool types. Everyboby loves them and wants to be like them.

2. If you use SBL's/NBL's/DBL's or Briks you are ok with extrordinary good taste in Hifi.

3. If you run a pair of Kans, you are generally a frustrated Sara owner (there's a good one for sale at the moment on Loot)and usually devote pages on this forum trying to convince us and yourself that you have the right speaker and that size is not everything. Get real...Kans are junk.

4. People who use Mana above phase 2 are vulgar, loud, uncouth, awful, unpleasant people and are only interested in kissing JW on his cheeks, all 4 of them. And boy does he love it.

5. Taxi drivers go round in circles on the road and on and on over here.

6. People with animal names are generally mentally unstable...you got to be weird to call yourself an animal.

7. Matthew Robinson is a whinging left wing pinko commie who should have the political editorial of the Daily Mail pasted all over the interior walls of his house. That includes the bedroom ceiling as well.

8. Italians are really rather cool and the essence of good charm and logic. They also have good taste in food, cars and transvestites.

9. Vuk is a good photographer but not so good at choosing decent booze......who with any sense drinks Vodka in this day and age.

9. James MCP is Blzebub in disguise. He is also just a hospital porter in the "special clinic", and not a doctor as he would have us believe.

10. Whiskey is the worlds best tweak in hifi, it improves music like nothing else and matures two years overnight if you place it on a Mana soundframe.

I must go......Mrs Mick is now made up and we are going out to dinner.

Mick

hopefully you're enjoying your dinner.

However, without wishing to generalize, there seems to be a teensy discrepancy betwixt point 6 and 8.

Or are there any Italians sans animal names?

Nonetheless, point one is so touché, it's a little too coy. Come on Mick! Who wouldn't want to be like you?

Is unless you're one of the 'inn-crowd', many of whom have already had honorable mention above, your posts are likely to be totally ignored unless they contain some mega-controversial suggestion like the possibility of there being viable alternatives to NACA5 for connecting Naim amps to non-Naim speakers roll eyes

I sleep well at night knowing that if you were to peruse any of the posts I have done, there is nothing of worth in any of them.

Also anything technical I always get wrong.

I also think Stallion is a hero, he clearly has plenty of money, women and hifi, something to which I aspire.

Stallion has a reasonable income as a result o hard graft, a lovely wife who tells him to "chill!" as and when necessary, and who could cook for England, but does it just as a hobby.

Unlike your good self who does it for a living no less (and I'm not knocking that!)
smile

He also has a decent hi-fi to boot, and I await hearing its latest setup to see (hear) if it can play the tune...

Regards,

Steve.

The proof of the pudding...

What have I learned?

Many people here are enthusiastic about HiFi and prepared to share this (and their knowledge).

Many people here are enthusiastic about music and ditto.

Some manage both!
