DVD player recommendations

I thought I'd start a new thread, rather than adding the query to my last one. Seems our DVD player (bought extremely cheaply a couple of years back) could also use an upgrade.
Ideally I'd like one that could record as well as play back and the idea of one that has a built in HD is appealing. Multi-region is an absolute must. I suppose a budget of £200-400. Also, for the playback of the one or two music DVDs I own, one with fairly decent sound quality would be important.
thanks, Tam

I have a Panasonic DMR - EX75, which works extremely well. It connects via HDMI to my plasma Panasonic TV. It has HDD recording and DVD recording. Playback quality is very good indeed.

It is multi region too (an extra £10 I think!) and sound quality is fine. I have it linked into my 282.

Hi Tam,
Have a look at the NAD range, i've had one for the last two years, good sound and picture + 2year guarantee.

There is something to be said for same-brand DVD and TV - common remote control for one. In the case of my Panasonic units they look ok together and seem to have a certain synergy.

If you can stretch the budget, I'd do this:
Denon DVD1930 - £250, all the gubbins, upscaling etc with a very good picture indeed.
Topfield TF5800 PVR - £280-ish for the 250GB version. Excellent facilities and good user interface.
OK, so you'd be stretching the budget quite a bit...
