cdx upgrade

Posted by: beefster on 13 March 2003

G,Day.
Anybody got information regarding the next move up from a cdx.Do I hunt down a second hand xps (cost £1200) or sell cdx and buy cdx2 (cost £12-£1400).Present system is cdx/chord solid, exposure 21 pre, exposure dual reg4 mk2 (big beastie),sonus faber signums + ironwood stands biwired with dnm reson ( or exposure cable),Rel storm mk3.
I strongly suspect the cdx with an xps1 would significantly best a cdx2 ( surely ?).
Any comments.
Thanks,Mark. ( 1st posting on this site)

Mark,

Firstly welcome to the forum.

I would recommend that you purchase a second hand XPS for your CDX. It really does open up the sound of the CDX. You will find that this will be a better option than puchasing a new CDX2.

I would totally agree with the advice offered by NB.

You will not recognise your CDX once you add the XPS.

I have graduated from 32.5/140 up to CDS2/52 etc and I still maintain that the best ever upgrade was when I added the XPS to the CDX.

To me it is a total no brainer.

deffo XPS. Good as the CDX2 is, an XPS on your CDX will not be "subtle".

Thanks All for the replies.
One 2nd hand xps duly purchased from Maurice at Audio Excellence for £1250 , boxed ,mint with cable.
Brilliant upgrade.Remarkable difference ( and the cdx1 is a great player).
Will go for a cds2 head unit as next move.Absolutely no hurry though.Thats at least a year away.Mucho thanks again. Mark.

Good post.

I have just connected up an 'old' XPS and can immediately hear the difference.

Right approach for me.
