Felt sorry for both sides - Everton definitely deserved to go through.

Both sides were really unlucky.

An amazing save from Malbranque's shot in the last minute, and then Jenas missed the chance to win it in the shoot out.

Always a hard way to go out.

Well, after a (not very good) nights’ sleep I am starting to get over the immense initial disappointment following the game. I have to say I am really proud of the way the team played for 120 minutes – we put in one of our best performances of the season and totally outplayed a very good team. We had enough good chances to have won 2 or 3 games and for the most part their goalkeeper was outstanding. Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve in football and I think this was just one of those occasions.
Unfortunately, Everton’s record in penalty shoot-outs is abysmal (unlike that other team from across the park, who have won 2 European Cups and an FA Cup on penalties – oh yeah, and a UEFA Cup on a “golden” own goal in extra time for good measure!) and I feared the worst.
Still, I think our performances in Europe this season will have made a few teams sit up and take notice and I fully expect us to be taking part in one of the European competitions again next season. The experience will have done us a lot of good and hopefully we can go further next time around.
In the meantime, we have that 4th place in the Premiership to concentrate on – watch out Fulham on Sunday! (Knowing our luck we’ll get 4th place but be relegated to the UEFA Cup as Liverpool win the Champions League – on pens, lol!)

Slightly cheering up, Mark

They did you proud, Mark. Moyes is an excellent manager and has come closer to bringing back the glory years to Goodison than anyone else after years of battling relegation.

Last night was a shame for you Toffees but there'll be other European nights I'm sure.

Looks like Bolton are out as well, but Rangers are through. The british success in the Champions League has not been replicated in the UEFA cup. (By the way, is it just me or did it used to be called the EUFA Cup?)
