Anyone heard of Rebekka Bakken?

Apparently from Norway and popular in Germany?

I'll admit I saw the CD in the jazz section with a pretty face in a quirky composition on the cover and it caught my eye Smile

I have The Art of How to fall - not bad, but nothing special either. I listened to the latest one at the listening post of my local CD store and decided it wasn't worth it. Of the Scandinavian singers I particularly like Lisa Ekdahl and Caroline Henderson's "Made in Europe" is getting fairly frequent playtime.

RB really IS very popular in Germany (I thought it would be Europe...). She's in the usual "brave new female "Jazz" voices with sex-appeal" league, and as such neither bad, not remarkable (to me).

cheers

OK thanks for the info - Lisa Ekdahl I tried out - but just found that I thought she was trying to fit too many words/syllables in with the music

it sounded a bit frenetic and stressfull - didn't chill out with it at all

but i did get Lymbakio on a recommendation from the board here - cool Smile

Jason,
which Lisa Ekdahl did you try? Her latest album is not a good place to start - I love her first album, very simple: voice, acoustic guitar and very basic support. Jazz standards in English, e.g with Peter Nordahl trio, When did you leave heaven are quite good also imho
Huw

PS - to chill out, try Hope Sandoval (voice from Mazzy Starr), "Bavarian Fruit Bread."

Huwge, the Lisa Ekdahl I tried was not in English - just quickly had a listen to When did you leave heaven on iTunes - wow - very cool!! Smile

Ok so I'll put that one on my list I think Smile

and Hope Sandoval - good tip cos I love the Mazzy Star CD - will check it out too Smile

Thanks!
