An evening with Naim

Three days ago, a friend who knows that I’m a Naim freak took me to his friend to listen to an excellent system.
I had four days from Sunday to Wednesday to get ready to this visit.
When we arrived, the person we came to has a specific listening room. First things you notice are the huge DBLs. I didn’t know by the pictures that they are so big (and they use the same elements as at my IBLs?).
Next to the sidewall there are LP12/Arrow/Prefix/Lingo on a M**A reference, two racks that hold two 250,supercap, NAC 52 and all the other power supplies and crossovers that are needed to run this setup.
On the last M**A reference rests a CDS with its XPS.
The look of the system is so beautiful. I wonder if Naim had to change the old style to the new one.
Another amazing product is the FLASH. Again it is something to read about a product and something else to hold it.
I guess this is the most beautiful, sophisticated and functional remote in the world. All the Japans’ manufacturers, who like to produce “HI TEC” looking products, have to learn from Naim. And this product is also functioning like a Hi Tec one…
The sound is great! I also have a NAIM (CDI, 102/hi/napsc/140/IBL) but there is nothing to compare. Much more details, much more music. The Highs, for example, it is hard to believe that the IBL are sharing the same tweeter as the DBL.
The lows – the DBL is a good solution to all the people who are saying that the IBL are bass shy… You hear a contrabass and you think that you are siting on the floor and looking at the instrument’s resonance box and actually sees the vibration of the strings (and feel them too).
The way this system exposes the details of the music is frightening. Sometimes you can’t listen to discs you like, as you hear see and feel all the faults were made by the recording procedure. But when the disc is good, the system takes you directly to the best sit at the place the recording took place at.
It was a great evening. And even didn’t have to ask how expensive the DBLs are, as I can’t put such huge speakers at my living room – so Naim, although these are grate speakers, don’t count me as a customer for them…
