CAN- Hunters and Collectors

Posted by: Romi on 06 February 2008

About 30 years ago my friend introduced me to a German Band called CAN. I will never forget them, their music was totally original, and their song 'Hunters and Collectors' was for me pure classic. I think their influence on the music scene was pretty strong in certain areas. The orogins of their music seem to enimate from a different scource different from majority of other western types of music. Some of their songs can be described as strange but they certainly had something going.

I agree that Can were a superb band.

Such a shame that they never amounted to much...

Can were an excellent band - though I prefer Amon Duul II and think if you like Can you'll love Amon Dull II - my recommendation is Tanz der Lemming.

Can (and Amon Duul II) both toured the UK several times in the 70's and while ADII were the better visual live act, Can were as exciting musically live as they were on disc.

I could not believe the price of Can's "Tago Mago" on vinyl in a collectors shop in Worcester just this Monday - it was £60 - although this was probably negotiable.

Time to have another trawl through Record Collector 2008 I think.

Have a good day

Tago Mago is the must have. Holger Czukay did some very good records and some of the Irmin Schmidt records are excellent
