Which power supply and newbie hello

Hello - my first post since registering - and the questions start here! Smile

I have the following system

Naim: 102/180/napsc
Meridian: 204 tuner and 206 CD and 263 delta sigma dac
Acoustic Energy: AE1 speakers
Quadraspire: stand
Linn: LP12 Ekos Arkiv Lingo (needs a service and new cartridge - erm, apologies if I'm not using the right terminology there, I'm a bit rusty on hifispeak Roll Eyes)

It's 5 years since I spent anything (bought the Naim stuff then) so it's about time I remedied that.

I'm thinking of spending no more than around £1k at the moment, and am considering a highcap. I've seen these second hand at around 400-600, and I've seen an ex-dem hicap2 at about 700. I'd like to spend the rest on the LP12 to get it back to sounding as it should.

Now for the questions:

Is the hicap2 notably better than the hicap?

Any suggestions on a decent cartridge?

Is there anything else I should be considering?

Thanks very much

I've not heard about astounding differences in the way olive Flatcap and 2 model are made. I bought 2 olive Hicaps when I bought the 82 and am very happy with the setup. That's all I can say.

Yep - I'll be back - it'll be a while as I only get it the end of next week and it's sort of an early birthday pressie so one's wife may prohibit use before the end of March...

Try and persuade her that it will take a couple of weeks to warm up properly and she'll want your sistem to sound its best actually on your birthday.

Hmmm - haven't actually mentioned I've bought it yet!

PS - will be looking into getting a new cdp next but a looming house move (if we get planning permission) may put paid to that for a while. But at least I'll be able to spec the wiring!
