Fritz, me old mucker,

I presume you're using a German keyboard, since a-umlauts are ten-a-penny in the old Deutsche lingo, innit Big Grin

Jon,

If you hold down the "Alt" key and type the digits 0239 - you will get the ï.

How can a pope effectively be a leader of the RC faith, when they are removed to a private city, given a palace, have enormous power, and have very little contact with the world? How can that be relevant? How can the pope know about condoms?
Surely Jesus would live among the people in very modest circumstances, and command respect from that position.
I'm not knocking JPII, but just believe the church remains totally hypocritical and just downright wrong!

Is it possible that John Paul may have picked up some experience of life during his childhood , student days and his evolution as a priest? Is it possible that he could have come in contact with a broad range of human conditions and emotions in those years?
Are we so narrowminded about this man that we can say little if anything good about him?
He was not perfect and maybe could have done more, but I suspect that governments are more at fault and to place so much emphasis on the perceived failures of a religeous leader is rather hypocritical.
He was there for 26 years. Why all the vitriol now?

His childhood and youth was certainly tough & traumatic in Nazi Poland. There is no doubt in my mind that he was a good man and probably one of the best popes ever, in difficult times and at an age when the church is more open to scrutiny. It is the nature of the church itself that I have trouble with.
