Help - can't edit posts
Posted by: Milo Tweenie on 31 January 2006
I want to edit a recent post I've made to correct a spelling. Hit the edit button and it says I don't have permission.
I've tried changing the permission in "my space" but again it won't let me.
Can anyone help; or is this a way of ensuring that newbies' errors remain on file in perpetuity?

No it applies to ALL our errors it would seem.
It was fixed recently but seems to have been taken away again. Perhaps we have been too naughty?

I wouldn't worry about the odd spelling mistake.
It's the small grammatical faults we tend to pounce upon like a shoal of ravenous piranha. ;-)
<smug> I seem to have the ability to edit my posts. <smug>

I am looking into this with Groupee - even as you write. The intended setting is that posters have 40 or so minutes - during which they can edit their post.
If this is not the case - there appears to be a confusion of settings.
I am on the case (which may not encourage much) and will, eventually, ensure that the above "grace period" is instated.

It would appear, therefore, that it is not a problem. Thank you Nime.

Adam is the edit facility granted to "special" persons? What does it take Cash? Secret handshake? A certain equipment level?
I think we should know.
BTW I can't edit/delete my posts just in case I was too obtuse!

Dear Adam,
I have occasionally regretted a post, and actually removed it a day or so later when that was possible. No bad thing really, but the only thing I ask if is, given the 40 minute limit, which is probably fair enough, just, will you perhaps be prepared to remove a posting after private email to you at work on the subject, as sometimes it really is better to remove something. I know I should be sane enough to see when I am posting a silly thing, but who among us can be a Saint all the time, if indeed, any?
The reason I say 40 minutes is only just long enough: Imagine trying to correct my typos, repost and then check again!
All the best from Fredrik

There would be no problem with that.
The main purpose is to allow moderation of posts - and so it is essential that read posts remain as they were written.
You could compose in Word, spell check - then cut & paste. I presume one can delete during the grace period by editing out all content in a post - I will tidy up any empty posts I see on the basis that they were made in error.

Not just me then; many thanks

It is still variable from time to time whether editing or deletion is possible. I have always assumed Adam was mucking about with the controls when tedium took its toll. It's odd that no other forum seems to suffer from this problem. Though one insists on publishing my posts whenever I hit "preview". A bit disconcerting at times. (:^)>
