You're of the 'Elvis went to Mars' persuasion, then?

Fat Elvis passed away sitting on a toilet, while trying to pass some huge, unhealthy meal that he'd eaten earlier.
An appropriate metaphor, perhaps, given that he couldn't foist off onto his diminishing band of admirers the sh*te music that he produced for the last 20 years of his life.
(Others may not embrace this analysis, of course!)

From Peter & the Test Tube Babies...
Elvis had a heart attack
Cos he got too bleedin' fat
He weighed nearly half a ton
Looked more like a pregnant mum
And
Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead,
Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, ELVIS IS DEAD
Elvis had a gammy leg
He had a gammy head
He had a gammy kidney
He's better off dead
and...
Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead,
Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, ELVIS IS DEAD
In August 1977
Elvis met his fate
He could not get into heaven
He couldn't fit through the gate
and...
Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead,
Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, Elvis is dead, ELVIS IS DEAD
aaaah they don't make em like that any more

Cos he got too bleedin' fat
He weighed nearly half a ton
Looked more like a pregnant mum

I remember walking down to a local shop in the Pyrenees while on holiday in 77' age 7 and seeing all the headlines about Elvis' death. I was with my dad and he was visibly upset as the hero of his youth had passed on, so I saw Elvis' impact on world culture right there in that moment on a mountain in Spain.

Funny, I was on a family holiday in Spain when Elvis died as well, in a villa in Javea. (Although maybe not so strange considering how many English families took their holidays there in 1977!). My Dad had had some odd desire to take a car ferry from Southampton to Bilbao and then drive across to the East coast. I remember one evening fiddling with the car radio and managing to pick up a very faint Radio Luxembourg where they just had 'breaking news' of his death.
Although I'm sure it's the right thing to not like Elvis' later stuff (I remember John Peel saying that in his opinion, Elvis had never produced anything worthwhile after coming out of the army), I rather like some of the later cheesy songs. Just one of my Guilty Pleasures.
S Club 7 is another.

Seems I have a drummer in rental house around the block now. Not bad either. Last family that rented there had a kid with band in garage with a weeseley voice tho he was singing Some Tom Petty songs, he needed a voice coach. One saturday afternoon I noticed the band sounded much better, I looked out my kitchen window and 15 people seated in the drive. I think it was dad's band giving the concert. Much more accomplished.
