Two **** purchases

These two will soon be back from whence they came (unless anyone here can convince me to give them another chance) :
Belle and Sebastian : blah blah Waitress.
Ryan Adams : Rock and roll. Shame because he used to be such a nice quiet boy.
Initial impressions are gobshite to a man.

I'm actually surprised at your Belle & Sebastian report. I've not heard it myself, but
www.allmusic.com rates it quite highly (and that by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, who usually hits these spot on).
Perhaps you just don't like twee pop. Did you like their earlier stuff?

"Love is hell" is not bad but nothing special (after about 3 listens). Not nearly as good as his first solo album in my opinion. It does have a nice version of Wonderwall, slow and chilled. I did not bother with "Rock N Roll".

Here's me plan :
1) Swap RA's R&R for L is H.
2) Stick B&S's DCW on me iPod and listen to it while I'm out in t'garden today. Maybe I will discover a deep appreciation for "twee pop".

OK. Scrub the subject. I've had a slight re-think.
The B&S DOES have some good songs on it. There are a few moments that are pure Don McGlashan. Overall though I get the feeling that I'm listening to a cross between a soap-opera and a camp musical. Not sure if I'll keep it.
As for RA : he's a sneaky bugger. After listen number two the melodies start to cut through the power-chords and a few start to shine enough to beg another listen, after which I suspect I'll be hooked, which is a shame as the CD has just gone back to the shop.
Recap : I've kept the B&S which I probably don't want and sent the RA back which I probably do. How smart is that ? I can feel a white lie vis-a-vis "I put the wrong CD in the bag" coming on.
