Which rack's ?
Posted by: Mike Gundry on 17 February 2003
I'm going to the Bristol show on Friday, which racks should I be looking for. I need a 5 tier rack. Can't really afford Naim Fraim, or is this the only alternative.
I have an Apollo tripod at the moment, and I haven't tried any thing else.

Easy for me to say of course, but Fraim is the only option; if you want the maximum potential out of your Naim kit.
Think of the price as a substantial system upgrade, and not silly money for something to stand it on.
Good luck.

You might want to include "particular" as well.

Hi Mike,
I know waht you mean by "not affording the Fraim", cause I was in the same situation. But I managed to build a Fraim of my own on the basic main principles(smoked 10 mm glass shelves, balls & cups, MDF boards, aluminium feet) and design. All the project ended to an average figure of 500 USD and the result both in sonic and look appearance was great. I have some photos, but due to limited space (only 50K) I cannot attach to the present post(mines are .jpg format of 300K each). If you are interested advise me on your e-mail account and I will be happy to send them to you.
Best regards,
Constantin

Don't forget Ash Designs mike, they do some nice looking stands for the few here that find the looks of HIFI important. I would love to say they sound great but I have never heard any differences between stands in my life.

"All systems are perfectly designed to get the results they get."

Mike,
What is wrong with the Appollo stack?
I had my Naim gear of an Appollo 5 tier stack before I purchased the Fraim. There wasn't much wrong with the Appollo stack although I have to admit the Fraim does a better job but it does cost considerably more and was designed specifically with Naim equipment in mind.
My Roksan still sits on an Appollo TT stand and again I am pretty happy with it.

Since then holes have been cut out of the shelves reducing mass, and eliminating resonances even more.
Result: better dynamics, bigger, deeper soundstage, more tune.
Quadraspire Reference in conjunction with Music Works Block and leads - the musical choice, imho.
Regards,
Steve.

FRAIM is outstanding. Simply music.
MANA filters the life out of the music. Fast but lifeless.
