Cheap AV arrangement

Posted by: Arye_Gur on 02 April 2002

My system is CDI, LP12, 102,napsc, HI, 140,IBL.
Although my goal will be a Naim AV system, is anyone having a cinema system that he adds on a Naim system, and is a cheap one?

What kind of add on to the amp have I use, what cheap rear speakers, is a center is a must, and from where can I take the output for the rare and center amplification?

I think the Yamaha dsp800 is excellent value. It is NOT high end but is great fun, especially with dolby digital from DVD.

You can use it without a center channel speaker in the short term by diverting the central signal to front left and right.

It has an internal amp for the front central and the rears. It also provides a signal out for an active sub.

At the end of the day you have to be aware of the limitations it can impose on two channel listening. You need your TV (or whatever) between your front speakers which is not good. Also most center channel speakers need to be good quality as they take a large proportion of the signal. The character of this speaker needs to be the same as your left and right pair or quality will suffer.

I am lucky as I use a nait in my AV system, keeping two channel music listening in another room in a non compromised set up

I'm having a lot of fun with a Denon 1802 AV receiver + 4 x Diamond 8.1, 1 Diamond 8 centre, Yamaha active subwoofer (forget model).

It is NOT high-end and the speakers are not optimally sited, for domestic reasons. However I'm enjoying DVD films a lot more.
