Golden oldies top number ones list

Most of these come from the last century, so do songs get better with age? http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,836566,00.html What additions would you expect to see on the next list?

In total agreement Queens Bohemian Rhapsody is the greatest single of all time. I also agree it gets better and better with time.

One song that I didn't see in the list Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to heaven". I would have this present in any "top of...." list.

Bohemian Rhapsody is, without any doubt, the WORST record ever made. Any sane person runs from the room screaming at the merest hint that it's being played.

And don't you think these lists should bar all recent songs? In a year from now, who would vote for the Elvis remix, or Kylie?

This was a rundown of singles that had been at number 1. So Stairway to Heaven wasn't eligible on both counts.

Nevermind...

I wonder why Bryan Adams did so (relatively) badly yet Queen did so well?

... but *please* tell me that Little Jimmy Osmond's "Long Haired Lover From Liverpool" didn't make the list.

because Queen had musical talent and Bryan Adams didn't. How many Queen hits could your average person name compared to that of Bryan Adams?

One of the greatest singles that didn't make the list because it never got to number one.

This would have my vote as the best single not to have made the top spot. It was held of by that classic "Shaddupa your face" which also doesn't make it into the top 100 chart.

Queen is PC, Bryan is not.

I would also vote for Bo Rap. It's difficult to remember how this sounded the first time I heard it because it is just remarkable. For a single showing such imagination to actually get to number one and stay there is a great testiment to its quality. It's far from the straight foreward sugar sweet pop songs that often dominate.

One thing that has helped this in the list is it has had two long spells at the top of the charts 15 years appart thus many more people will have been exposed to it than some other No1's.

I certainly wouln't call Queen PC though. They were decidely 'uncool' all the way through their career.

I think that all poles like this should ban anything less than 2 years old, as these will always get an unnaturally high rating due to people just being able to remember them.
