Any Uniti / Kinsky Desktop users ?

Setup is Uniti v3, Buffalo NAS.

I've been through hoops these last few months trying to find a suitable solution for laptop control. Everything I've tried (foobar, media player, XBMC etc)is not quite there, be it dropouts, bugs, crashes, freezes etc. I've used Kinsky before but have just downloaded the latest version and it's working just how I want. Pause function and gapless works great.

Kinsky also has internet radio plugins which I can't get to stream to the uniti. I know we have iRadio but the Kinsky has a decent graphical layout. Is this something that should/could work or something the Uniti cannot handle ? Thought I'd ask here before raising on the Linn forum.

Um, surely if you have both the software and the hardware, you should perhaps try for yourself?

I did not know XBMC could be a control point, please tell me how you did this?

Um, I did and it doesn't. That's why I'm asking if anyone else has tried it.

I tried XBMC as a upnp server on my PC before buying the NAS.

I would look for problems elsewhere.... perhaps in your network.

JRiver Media Center and Foobar work perfectly for serving up hi def files over a wireless network of no special kind (simple Linksys G Router).

No drop outs, skips, and no issues of any kind other than those inherent to UPNP protocols and PlugPlayer.

Uniti with Kinsky desktop is now working fine, no drop outs and I'm happy with it.

What I'm asking is this, if I select an internet radio program (a BBC podcast for instance) on Kinsky, can I stream this to the Uniti in the same way I can stream wav/mp3 files to it ?

I get this message in the debug console ..

Insert into playlist started... No supported formats found for AHOW: 097 Hockney's In the Dull Village 19 Oct 2010

which suggests not but I thought I would ask if anyone else had tried this.

I take it you are using Kinsky on a PC rather than a Mac.

Yup. XP desktop & Win 7 laptop.

It might be exactly what the error is reporting, perhaps the radio stream is not a supported format?
