Wills

Not the royalty type, the "when you die" type.

It's been pointed out to me that I should get a Will sorted out. I've tended to consider them something you do when you get older but you never know when you'll get mown down by a bus, hell when you think about it the combinations of grim possibilities are endless Smile

Assuming I'm single, and don't own a home or have any debts and want "the lot" to go to a single relative, what's the simplest/cheapest/most effective way of going about it?

I'm thinking visiting solicitors seems OTT but I'm not sure what is the best thing to do - I'm sure the info is on the Internet but I'd expect a few legal types may be reading this.

TIA,
Paul

Sounds a simple enough will. Use a solicitor in one of the annual 'write a will' weeks when its about £50.

I got a quite complicated will written by a solicitor for about £80. I have seen DIY fill in youself will forms for sale in Smiths. My solicitor though they were a rather good idea - more work for solicitors sorting out the problems they raise. While you are about it think about establishing an Enduring Power of Attorney.

If I die before the Mrs. then I am sure she can afford the debt ..........

Make a will, for goodness' sake. If you don't, much of your estate will go not to your loved ones, but to the avaricious and spendthrift Gordon Brown. But if that's what you want...........

If you don't, it will help Gordon's chum Tony to keep our occupation force in Iraq.

Good advice as the bus might not kill you outright.
