Porcupine Tree - We Lost the Skyline

Latest Steven Wilson HQ News

On the 4th October 2007 Porcupine Tree arrived for an in-store performance and signing session at Park Avenue CDs in Orlando, Florida, with 200 fans also in attendance. Although it was originally planned that the full band would play, lack of space dictated that it was only the 2 guitarists / singers Steven Wilson and John Wesley who delivered an impromptu performance, including many songs rarely (if ever) played by the band, making for a very special and intimate show. Fortunately this one-off performance was captured by a remote recording facility and the complete 8 song, 33 minute show is now being released in a mail order only CD, with a digipack sleeve created by photographer Lasse Hoile and designer Carl Glover. The CD will be available to pre-order soon from the PT Store (please do NOT email to ask when), and is expected to ship in the week commencing 11th Feb.

Dutch vinyl specialists Tonefloat will also release a quality 180gm vinyl edition of We Lost the Skyline in a gatefold sleeve, with a limited and numbered edition of 1,000 copies on marbled vinyl, and a regular edition on black vinyl. These editions will be released on 18th March, but will also be available to pre-order soon from the ToneFloat website. The Porcupine Tree store will also stock the vinyl editions once they are released.

Full track listing for the album is:

1. the sky moves sideways (4.02)
2. even less (3.27)
3. stars die (4.33)
4. waiting (3.52)
5. normal (4.52)
6. drown with me (4.09)
7. lazarus (4.29)
8. trains (4.04)

Thanks Denis. I have got my tickets for the gig. This will be my first PT gig, so expectations are very high. I have read so many good things about them live but not been able to see them when I have been in the UK. Just had to make do with the DVD.

I hope the new CD will be in the letter box when I get home in a few hours. Glad to hear it is good.

Cheers

Attended their concert in Stockholm last year.
Very, very good. One of the very best, if not the best, I´ve attended in many years.

Ok Mr D I finally got to hear PT's Fear of a Blank Planet tonight (in Dolby Digital 5.1 guise) and I'm impressed! ...can't think why I hadn't really clocked this lot before despite so many mentions on this site. I guess some catching up is in order?!

Jet,

You obviously wern't listening to Gary Shaw and me gabbing on about PT at the SD gig last year! Welcome aboard and because the band has so much diversity, let me know if you need help.

Jet,

Potentially you have a wonderful journey ahead. Though the band have been through several styles the strength of the song-writing has always been top division (even though I think Mr Wilson needs to cheer up a bit - he's had a pretty bleak view of humanity over the last few albums!).

Denis,

Interesting that this album featured so many older songs. I feared they'd be a bit lost without the full band effect, but they're not. Which I suppose reinforces my comment to Jet about the songwriting...

Munch,

There are Two PT releases available at tonefloat. Click on the Store link and you find 2 versions of Fear of a Blank Planet and the impending release of We lost the Skyline. They are not cheap. The Other store that supports PT is Burning Shed. Most of PT's Vinyl are limited issues and sell out quite quickly, as is the case right now unfortunatley. The good news is that the Album Lightbulb Sun is coming out on vinyl this year and will be an essential buy. The best way of keeping up to date with the latest PT and related Project news is to subscribe to theseaweedfarm. The Artwork and quality of all PT Vinyl packages is first class and reflects the the consistent high standards that Steven Wilson sets for the band. I will bring along my Vinyl next week to show you.

Munch,

There is a good history of the band here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcupine_Tree

and PT routes go back to 1987. A long journey to their more than well deserved success.

At the moment, he's working on the new No-Man album with Tim Bowness - from what I've heard, it's going to be their best yet.

Munch,

This is a comprehensive discography of Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson's other Projects here. You can easily download the PDF file (316 pages) and you will see it is a labour of love from Uwe Häberle.

Here is a collection Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson related releases planned this year.

Having been on the road for almost the entirety of 2007, Steven is now busy in the studio working on 2 brand new albums. One of these is his first ever song based solo project, something which will reveal a darker musical side of SW not hitherto heard in any of his other projects. The solo album is a work in progress with no set release date, but material is coming thick and fast, so a release sometime towards the end of this year seems likely.

Also well underway and expected to be issued in May is the first album by No-Man in 5 years. Its current working title is "Schoolyard Ghosts". You can find more information on the no-man MySpace site.

Porcupine Tree will remain active in 2008 with the re-release of their seminal album Lightbulb Sun (April/May?) In deluxe CD/DVD-A and vinyl editions

There has also be mentioned a short Blackfield tour in late spring/early summer

There will be a live album (September?) with possibly a short tour to promote it

Cover Version V (2008?)

Wow - if it is better than "Together We're Stranger", then it is going to be a very special album indeed.

New No-Man album Schoolyard Ghosts coming May 12th

Tim Bowness & Steven Wilson return with No-Man’s sixth official studio album and the band’s first since 2003’s Together We’re Stranger.

Produced and written by No-Man, Schoolyard Ghosts features the hypnotic ballad Wherever There Is Light, the atypically manic Pigeon Drummer and the epic 13 minute semi-orchestral Truenorth, the album represents the most consistent and crafted collection of songs in No-Man’s history and looks set to build and improve upon the success of Returning Jesus and Together We’re Stranger.

Guest musicians include Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree), Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree/King Crimson), Bruce Kaphan (ex-American Music Club/Red House Painters), Pat Mastelotto (King Crimson), Dave Stewart (Hatfield & The North/National Health) & Theo Travis (David Sylvian/Gong)
