Are you talking about those horrible paper labels that you need to print and then stick on - or are you talking about printing directly onto CD? There are a lot of ink jets now that claim to print directly onto CD's but the real trick is the template (usually supplied) that opens in photoshop / word / or my case In Design. Once you've got that, the printable CD there is usually only the problem of doing it! There are a few CD/DVD printers around today that remove the hassle see here - they are about £99 so if you are doing a lot...quote:Originally posted by Diode100:

Avoid the stick-on paper ones. With heat they can start to lift off, and if that's happening while it's playing it can do a lot of damage - especially in an in-car slot feed jobbie.

My Canon Pixma 5200 can do this, and is very good.
It comes with a little application called "CD Label Print".

The excellent Canon 5200 can be bought for about £80.
I understand the print quality on some dedicated CD printers is pretty crap, too.

Whilst we're on this subject, I want to buy some audio CDs (the proper music ones) with printable surfaces.
Can't find them anywhere.
Can anyone suggest a source in the UK?
cheers, Martin

Printable CDs are fine, they cost a bit more of course and you need a compatible printer. My 3 year old Canon does a good job so I expect more recent and cheaper models to do at least the same.
What about LightScribe discs? LG have a DVD burner that goes for around €50 here. Again, blanks cost more and they only 'scribe' in monochrome but I'm sure that's the way forward.

Steve,
thanks, only one audio disc (the Dysan), but that doesn't have a printable surface.

Again, the audio discs are not printable, although they do have a reasoably-priced audio CD-RW that I have also been looking for.
The discs I want are the special "designed for domestic CD recorders" ones.
Thanks if anyone else has any suggestions.
cheers, Martin

To print a listing in itunes:
Make a playlist.
Select playlist.
Goto file and print.
Jobs done.
As for CD labelling, get a permanent black pen and use movement in your wrist and arm to make writing.

I think Diccus is worried that everything is slowing down now he has reached Seniority - maybe he needs machines to do some things for him now????

I use an Epson R200 for Cd printing. You can also do sleeves etc with the software provided...

Thanks to you all for feedback and interesting associated issues. Do I understand correct that there are three options:-
1) A printed stick-on label - uses printer
2) Use a CD with a printable surface already attached - uses dedicated printer.
3)Burn / Etch an image directly onto a (special) disc - but not in colour - uses disc burner.
So, what are lightscribe discs ?
thanks again
