NEW POP QUIZ

Posted by: BigH47 on 28 February 2005

The US POP QUIZ seemed to be petering out. So I suggested we "open" it up to general pop/music. It was suggested that I get it started. Me and my big fingers!
Ok here goes:-

A group who could also be a farming system. Current and not particularly well known chartwise.

Howard

I have added this question to the end of the US one as well.We could stick with the new thread or ask for the original to be re-named? Others may have switched off the original thread.

Great stuff, Howard.

Would it be less confusing to alter the title to something like New Pop Quiz?

British Punk-Rock band formed during 80's in Sunderland. Bigger success in USA than over here. Broke up in '93 and reformed in '98 without bassist who had by this time committed suicide.
Band name after character in horror movie.
Might be quite tough, this one.

I had help from my friend my G.Oogle and got it in about 10 seconds - is that cheating? - if so feel free to pose another question, but in the meantime I will post a question with a few less details maybe -

A group that produced only two albums in the early 1970’s – made up of three Americans and one from near Birmingham (UK – not Alabama).
Most of the individual members were more famous than the band itself.
Their first album has a picture of a battered guitar amp – the manufacturer’s logo being substituted for the name of the band.

This is a good one & I'm still thinking.

A bit more info..
I think The English guy was mainly an R & B type, and the music they produced was not that great some of the songs sound like a poor man's Allman Bros. and the others like a poor man's Doobies.
The band with which 2 of the American's made their name is up there with the most famous - but they aren't the person that springs to mind when you think of the band.

My first thought was C,S,N&Y but then remembered Neil Young is Canadian. Still thinking...

I think you will have to get off your backsides to finish this one off early doors

Blimey this is annoying me! I'm close to giving up......more clues?

Cheers

Gotcha Chunny!

It was the Butts Band

I got to it by:-

1. Being a Brummy, I can recall most of the more famous names. Near to Birmingham made me think of other areas like Kidderminster, Stourbridge and then Dudley - Bingo, Jess Roden.

Your "backsides" and "doors" clues confirmed it.

I'm better at answering these than setting questions so please do another one!

Best wishes

Ron

I wonder if this will work...

I went past Robbie Krieger's web site earlier today but missed.

Well done Ron, I would never have got it in a million years and I have the album! - of course I should have said "late Doors" instead of "early doors".

OK - I will try another question -
1983 was the date of the release of this Englishman's first solo effort - it was an EP with a great name - and one of his most famous songs appears on it - he is still going strong today- although only a drive around the M25 away from George Michael - they are worlds apart.

David Sylvian?

David Sylvian

Rich - the time is right but he's too far round the M25 and wrong sort of music.
