NEW POP QUIZ
Posted by: BigH47 on 28 February 2005
The US POP QUIZ seemed to be petering out. So I suggested we "open" it up to general pop/music. It was suggested that I get it started. Me and my big fingers!
Ok here goes:-
A group who could also be a farming system. Current and not particularly well known chartwise.
Howard
I have added this question to the end of the US one as well.We could stick with the new thread or ask for the original to be re-named? Others may have switched off the original thread.

Brighton band, contemporaries of the Piranhas, had a singer called Helen. Who were they and what was the name of Helen's subsequent band?

The Chefs and Helen And The Horns.
Right I really will try and think of one now!

OK - post-punk band who's critically acclaimed first album was named after a classic novel. They pretty much sank without trace after lead singer left to become a music journalist.

Joseph Conrad.

Assuming the book is Heart of Darkness, it must be Positive Noise. I once had that, though can't remember it now.

These guys were acquaintances of mine back in Worthing in 78/79. They released one EP that received an honoury place in John Peel's festive 50.

How about that? I had opened up the reply box, took a phone call, then typed my answer and now find in those few minutes Nigel nipped in before me. Next time.

Mr Halibut,
was it The Chefs?
Posted on: 27 April 2005 by hungryhalibut
Sorry Mr Seagull but not the Chefs. I thought they were great and recall dancing with Helen at a Piranhas gig at Jenkinsons.
The band I an after are much more obscure, but Rich always guesses my quizzes.
Their EP was called OBE/Slag - the clue 'honoury mention' was clearly too subtle!!

Well done - did you know it? I didn't realise that OBE/Slag in google would take you to a picture of the EP. It seems that it's as rare as f*** (according to the website). I wonder if my copy is worth anything - haven't played it for years.
Over to you.

I had to google to confirm.
OK, next question - late '60s early 70's experimental band, renowned for not using electrical instruments. Apparently reformed in the eighties. Produced the soundtrack for a film version of Macbeth.

The Third Ear Band?

Rich
Too good for me - never heard of them. Sound interesting though.

Is the correct answer - over to you Rich

OK - as Nigel likes to keep his local I will do the same here. A Hull band who had a single out on Factory Records produced by Peter Hook.
Cheers
