I happen to know in at least one case, it isn't... But I'll let the guys speak for themselves!!!!!!!
Computers are supposed to work on 1's and 0's - in other words "Yes" or "No" - why does mine frequently say "Maybe"?......

Blythe,
It must be me then. Currently still running a CDS2 cos there's sooo much demand for the 3 I can't get my hands on one.Powered by XPS 2 of course with the new type S-XPS burndy (super little u/grade)
going into what I would say is the largest u/grade I've made for year, the Nac 552.This brought astonishing musical textures that were only hinted at with the previous Nac 52. This feeds the Nap 500 (sadly only one) that drives a rather nice pair of NBL's. All standard cables of course

and with what speakers Richard???
Posted on: 07 July 2003 by Richard Dane
Well, previous posts have indicated that I have been trying out various options in my room. I'm currently using Quad ESLs but they will eventually be moved to another system in another room.
Top contender so far seems to be the SL2s which seem to combine many of the strengths I love in the ESLs with the traditional virtues of cone-type speakers (the ability to play loud is nice too...

Hi Doug, you sussed me out!
It was the NBL's that I was referring to :-)
Knowing that the DBL is the top of the range.
I'm very pleased that your front end is running into a "rather nice pair of NBL's"!
Gives me faith!
Regards, Martin.

Oh, I feel sorry for you having to live with only one Nap500, life is hard sometimes

Very pleased to know you all take your work home with you. Dedication eh! I trust of course that this expenditure for equipment assessment (and software) is tax deductable?

Doug
Am I correct in assuming that you are selling your NBLs to Blythe and replacing them with a pair of DBLs?
Perhaps you should try a pair of SL2s for a few weeks then some Neat Ultimatums and perhaps Totem Winds, we all know DBLs dont do bass

Bosh
Neat post! The SL2's are now installed. Will be talking to Bob soon. Contemplating moving to a wigwam if funds permit.
Seriously, I'm moving home and the SL2's seem to be the best solution from our range. I'll let you know how the SL's perform when they're run in

It's really interesting that both you and Richard prefer the SL2s when the general forum consensus seems to be moving towards the NBLs finding SL2s not to be a worthwhile improvement over SBLs.
Is this linked to any room size/interface issues in your case or is it as Richard has said due to pure speaker performance (I think he said SL2s were more open and cohesive)

Doug,
I srewed the xover on a board 8,5cmx54cm. The board stands behind the SL2 on the floor. The xover is so highly screwed on that the naca5 connections to the tweeter and bass sit not tautly.
That was not any more than 20 minutes of work. The accuracy of the SL2's was improved and is beatable only from 2*NAP500 SL2's.

Bosh
I never said that I preferred the SL2 over the NBL.The reason that I've changed is simply that the NBL's will not work in the area that the speakers need to be sited in my new house. (not "new" house you understand) I'm of the opinion that the NBL is a better all round speaker BUT in certain circumstances the SL2 is more appropriate solution.
Ulrich
I've currently got the xovers of the SL's screwed to the bottom box but am willing to "experiment" when I've completed my house move.

Thanks Doug
That what I wanted to know, whether it was a situational/romm dependency or speaker performance related decision

Bosh,
it's a similar situation with me. I really like the NBLs but I really doubt they would work to their best ability in my room, hence my preference for the SL2s.
Then again, I might be wrong. We'll see....
