Hi all,

Hi again,
Slip off my finger and accidently press "enter" resulted in above post.
The question:
102, Napsc, 2xHicap (£1500 ish) better bet than 82 (again same sort of price s/h).

Thanks,
Km

Why don't we all just piss people off with stupid answers, instead of helping them. Ignoring them would probably be less offensive.

What were you doing on your finger Razz

Sorry couldn't resist!

KM. My advice is to go with the 82. It'll always sound better than a 102. The 102 can only use 1 hi-cap by the way not the 2 you appear to indicate. The 82 can use 2 hi-caps to good effect.

The advice is under the proviso that actually changing your pre for another is a good move overall. You don't say anything about the rest of your sistem you see, so it's hard to be definitive.

Hope that helps. Jay

Alternativley, we could fail to see a joke and say its stupid - helped by failing to read other threads.

Or do you have a point?

My current set up Cdx,180 & Celestion A1.
Just sold my 102 +napsc for £650 and plan was to upgrade to 82. The truble is there aren't many good deal on 82 at the moment. Most of them going for around £1500.
Money is tight as always so I thought if I were to spend say extra £900 (+£650 from sale of 102),What would be the most benifitial upgarde?
plan 1 is repurhase 102+Napsc for around £650 and try to get S/h Xps for about £1000
Plan 2 is repurchase 102+Napsc and 2 Hicap(2x£450) one for 102 and another for 180(or is this possible?)
Plan 3 is to go for 82.
Plan 4 is to get rid of the speaker and buy some decent one such as Sbl or Neat.
Obiously any of the above move will be good upgrade from what I had but which one would be best one in terms of sound per pound?
I know there are many Knowledgable and helpful guys here so pls. keep the post coming.

Ever Greatfully,
Km

It just seems a bit childish to say try blu tak for every question thats all. Yes I do have a sense of humour.
KM asked a question and from his reaction to the "answers" he recieved I sensed he was upset. That was the point I was making, if the poster realises it's a piss take fair enough, just was'nt sure in this case.

Hi Km,

Hope this helps:

If you can afford it the 82 is a great pre....I know of one for private sale in my area for £1250.

It isn,t poss to add a hicap to the 180. The 180 has got a built in power supply to power the pre. This gets bi-passed when you add an external power supply for the pre.

The 102 can be powered with one hicap not two.

The 82 can be powerd with 1 or 2 hicaps or better still with a supercap.

Yes ...I would look to replace the A1, but only after upgrading the other components first.

1) Retrive your 102 & add a hicap when funds permit!

Or grab an 82 now.

2) Hunt down an XPS. This will turn your CDX into something like groovy man!

3) Replace 102 with 82

Sorry km if i confused you, and howard if i offended you. Alcohol does make me a bit silly, i'm usually quite helpfull...Get the xps for your cdx and if you can live without a remote some people prefere the 72 over the 102... As for speakers you could try some second hand epos es 11's for around £200 to £250, mk 2 kan's if you can live without deep bass! or i've seen old sbl's with updated drivers for around £600 and if you decide you don't like them sell them for very little loss or maybe even a profit!
