LP 12/Xerxes drive belts
Posted by: quickie on 22 January 2003
Anyone know if the drive belts for a LP12/Xerxes are the same size?
There is a guy on ebay selling LP12 belts(not Linn ones)
When I asked if he had any for a Xerxes,he asked for the dimensions,I gave them to him and he told me they were the same as the LP12 one!
Cheers,
Paul.

Paul,
As far as I am aware the drive belt for the LP12 will not fit the Xerxes. The Xerxes is very sensitive when it comes to drive belts and it is best to fit the originals.

The belt makes a large impact on a turntables sound.Roksans are specially ground for the turntable and are the right size for the correct tention on the inner platter. It may seam a lot of money for a piece of rubber , but value for money lies in the results not the price.

Paul,
Should start a serious xerxes thread on PFM. £27 quid for a new belt should be affordable now
When is my blobs going?

Blobs were posted on Friday as in my email.I can afford lots of Xerxes belts
but I think 27 quid is a rip off.

Paul,
They quoted me a mere £17 for the rubber band, which is emminently more affordable. Now £60 for three rubber blobs, that's what I call a rip off and they didn't change the bloody things when I had the deck serviced last year.
Yours, (awaiting belt and blobs anyway),
Ed.

I think the fluctuations in blob and belt prices are due to the bear market in such commodities. The only thing that doesn't change in price is the bearing oil, a snip at £7 for not very much.

Ed,
Substitute the oil with high grade motor oil (Mobil 1, Castrol GTX).
Have lived in the wilderness with a xerxes with only 1 oil change, courtesy of Shell.
Five litres goes a long way for your car and especially for your Record player.
