n-Vi and second room system

Posted by: Jonathan on 21 January 2006

I have CD2, 82, 250 and 2 x hicap and Epos es22s. Plus various dvd players, surround amp etc.

I am planning to purchase an n-Vi to replace the two (poor) dvd player and the yamaha surround sound amp. I am also wanting to set up a new system in another room.

My plan is to replace the CD2 with the n-Vi, buy a second hand NAP5i so I have the n-Vi with 82, hicaps and 250 in one room and the CD2, NAC5i in the other room (with epos es11s). The first setup is for day-to-day use (TV, CD and DVD), the second is for an occasional CD listening room.

I have a couple of questions. Firstly, is there a better solution for a similar outlay? And secondly, what are the limitations of having the NAC82 without unity gain (ie I need to turn to 12oclock to use it).

Thanks

Jonathan

Er...cant think of a reason other than having to change volume at present.

Just going to have a think.....

Why would you not have the unity gain mod? (Other than cost.. Smile)

Jonathan,
If you are not planning other sources than the N-VI built-in DVD player (or the TV),IMHO you don't need the 82 in this system. I don't think the 82 will improve music over an N-vi/250. I don't think there is a direct analog output from the CD player as in the DVD5.
You should by a NAP instead of a NAIT5i and use it with the 82/hicap and your CD2.

Manu,

Thanks for the suggestion - As I still want to listen to CDs in the main room, the n-Vi as well as CD2, 82, Hicaps and 250 seems the best option.

Then simply go for a CD5 and Nait for the spare room (I used to have a Yamaha CDX2 and quantum amp there - but they both died of old age recently).

Cheers

ouch - nothing serious I hope. No worries/rush. Snow here in Greece so I am not going anywhere in a hurry - for the moment.

Jonathon,

An 82 costs between £120 - £160 depending on age and condition for the unity gain mod.

Sound about right, I has a quote for £110 for the same mod to a 102. P

102 slightly easier to mod than 82 and 52
