AV2 and NAC 72

Posted by: Guto Orwig on 17 August 2010

Having used an AV2 as the hub of my Naim system for a while the dreaded 'what if I get more kit' bug has struck!
My question is will I be able to connect an olive 72 with my av2 to serve as a preamp to my cd and turntable? I know that I'm going to need an outboard psu as well.

The common AV2 set-up to do with a recent Naim 2 channels preamp is to use socket #3 on the AV2 as an audio output, and set the 2 channels preamp's AV input on Uniti Gain.

Unfortunately, you can't do that with a stock NAC 72, you'll need to have one of its input adapted as a direct way to the output board, skipping the NAC 72's attenuation stage. You'll need to have a talk with your dealer if this adaptation is still available (I don't think so... but I'm crossing fingers for you).

Bye.

Before you do this ensure there is no slip or give on the volume control.

When I had a NAC62 to sort out the AV this is what I did, Pick an input on the 72 to use for AV.
Position the Volume to 12 o'clock, go through the AV setup procedure, if going to the extremes of L&R volumes then move the volume control + or - as appropriate.

Once all setup, you need to place a mark on the volume control and the NAC72 case that you can line up. I used a small white dot on each.

When you want to listen to AV, select the input, line up the dots and off you go.

Hi Guto.

You might find some useful information in this thread: https://forums.naimaudio.com/ev...332977927#6332977927

It's from the Home Theatre section of the Naim forums site which is also here: https://forums.naimaudio.com/ev...ums/a/frm/f/78019385
