Uniti at 192kHz/24 bit

Posted by: ferenc on 11 December 2009

Actually I am feeding Uniti from my brand new M2Tech HiFace and Amarra /iMac at 192k/24 bit and it works Smile

I am more than surprised. I do not know if it is downsampled or not internally, but sounds very good.

Feeding the same configuration (latest beta version of Amarra) into a Lavry DA10.

Likewise - very impressed.

Thinking of dragging this combination along to my Naim DAC listening session.

unless you have gotten some software no one else has your uniti is not doing 192/24 the software feeding your uniti has down sampled it.

The hiface can stream 24/192 from the USB socket it is a neat little thing.

DHT,

The Uniti is limited to 16/44.1 until a future update. This is the case via ALL inputs.

Hi Ferenc,

I was waiting for the Linux drivers to be made available but I've just ordered on of these little babies.

Be interesting to listen to some of my high res files in their full glory, hopefully! ...and then do a comparison through the Naim DAC vs USB memory stick.

Interesting times.

Patrick , I see, in that case no 24/192!

If Uniti downsamples, it is fine. It is at least not too detrimental, even the downsampled feed is very good and much listenable.
Smile

I tried 192k tracks with my Altmann DAC, which handles 192k properly through its SPDIF input and its small LED shows the feed is 192k and synced.

So the other good news that HiFace can play out 192k really well from the USB port without glitches and potential Naim DAC users can get a really affordable way to handle computer audio in the future.

the hiface looks like a nice product. I will give it a shot if ever easily possible.

Ferenc, do you know if it will work with programs like wavelab or others that can kernel stream? That it works with Amarra is encouraging as I think we were only assured of MAC/Itunes and PC/Foobar before it showed. The HiFace looks to be a really nice find. Good on you. Big Grin

Hi Chaps,

Just to clear up the facts and figures on Uniti:

On S/PDIF inputs the Uniti will accept up to 192kHz @ 24bit. This is why the original posters stuff works.

On current production software (1.1.00) the USB and UPnP streaming feeds support up to 48kHz / 16bit.

On the current Uniti Beta code, support for 96kHz/24bit is available on USB and UPnP inputs.

With regards

To be honest I do not have a PC at home, we are Mac only family Smile

I will ask one of my friend with a PC and a Konnekt to try mine, and let you know.

Very good news Smile

That was my understanding as well. SPdif in is not limited beyond the Wolfson's capabilities.
