Where do I go next???

Hi all,forum virgin here Razz
I have had the following set up for quite some years now and have enjoyed it immensely,but it's time for upgrading SmileCDX,NAC92,FC,IXO,NAP90X2,KATANS.Reading some of the forum posts,I was perturbed to see that active systems below NAP250's are frowned upon.I upgraded to active quite a few years ago and really saw an improvement by going down this route.Everything just seemed harder hitting and more focused if that makes sense!Anyway,I feel I'm at a crossroads now;do I upgrade slowly at a moderate cost or trade in my whole active set-up and go passive with superior amps that I could afford with the proceeds from selling 92,90's,IXO etc?Thank's for any advice Wink

With your system I would suggest that source first is a no-brainer. An XPS for your CDX or CDS1/2/3 depending on funds and whether you want to buy second hand. After that, look at a better pre-amp.

I'm sorry, but I disagree: A CDS2/3 would of course be better than a CDX, but would also result in
an unbalanced system! 'stav' should upgrade the pre-amp first, maybe a s/h NAC82 which will show the
potential of the CDX in a better way then the existing NAC92.
In my opinion, the CDX is good enough and one of the best part of 'stav's' system.

SmileCheers for the advice guys....gulp...NAC82 or XPS is outta my budget at the moment[it's a married thing!]I was considering an NAC102 with napsc and my FC or maybe a 72??...and then NAP140's X2 on the secondhand market.

Stav,
I would wait and save the money until you could afford a s/h 82 (or at least a 102/napsc), because
the CDX is in the same 'league' like the NAC82 (and the 82 should be powered by a separate power
supply, at least one hicap and not involve the power amp).
But always try to make a home demo and make your own decision whether an upgrade is worthwhile for
you or not. :-)

Right,gotta 102 coming Smile..trouble is no napsc Roll Eyes...Shall I buy a napsc or upgrade me flatcap to hicap for best performance?
