What's the worst thing that could happen at Xmas?
Posted by: N. Mason on 26 December 2003
Hey people, can you help me? My CDS2 just conked out on Xmas eve. It played three tracks and then stopped with the display showing "error". I've tried several CD's and its the same story. I just tried it again after a couple of days and it worked for a while, then came to a grinding halt again. The sound quality is fine. Initially, it failed to read any tracks at all and the disc just kept spinning. Naim are on vacation 'till Jan 5th, any suggestions/solutions would be appreciated.
I have a pile of new music to listen to; life can be terribly cruel sometimes. Merry Christmas everybody.

The exact same thing happened to me on Christmas Day 1999. My brand new Rotel RCD 991 conked out (it had worked perfectly for the 2 days following my purchasing it beforehand.)
I had to slum it with my Rotel 951 until after Boxing Day.
Now I'd regard a 991 as seriously slumming it, so it's all relative unless you are using ruthlessly revealing amps/speakers/cables etc.
Regards,
Steve.

Sounds like 'new transport mech' time.
Fancy a drive to Salisbury in a week or so?
If you arrange it in advance, they might be able to do it whilst you wait?
They did this for a friend whose CDS1 died; and had the CDS2 upgrade.
No guarantees though - I would guess that they'll be busy trying to get the new toys out, when business resumes.
This is where a decent second system comes in handy. I used my CD3 whilst in between a CDS2 and 3.
Good luck.

Two years ago, the dishwasher broke down on Christmas day at 9.30am. It meant I had to empty the dishwasher and wash everything by hand and then wash up after Christmas dinner. I then had to do it again about 7.00pm. I spent most of the day wearing marigolds and a pinny.

“Two years ago, the dishwasher broke down on Christmas day at 9.30am. It meant I had to empty the dishwasher and wash everything by hand and then wash up after Christmas dinner.”
Oh Mick that must have been sooooooo awful for you. I mean, the thought of having to take the dishes out of the washer and actually hand wash them – it’s so demoralising don’t you think?
“I then had to do it again about 7.00pm.”
What a terrible shame – I hope there was no long term psychological damage – do you ever get flashbacks at all?
“I spent most of the day wearing marigolds and a pinny.”
Gasp – the final insult!
Mick, you’ll never know just how much you’ve gone up in my estimation. You’ve come through such trauma and still you maintain that stiff upper lip – a remarkable achievement.

Blimey - I'd be worried if that happened at our house on christmas - that would be either me or dad in casualty (the "dishwasher" breaking down!!!)
Seriously - why do you guys BOTHER with dishwashers? They screw up half your stuff and don't clean the rest properly. Waste of water and electricity, not to mention kitchen space, if you ask me. You'd get better performance (and satisfaction!) saving the >£500 you'd spend on a DECENT washer and spending it on paper crockery and plastic cutlery. IMHO of course...
SM - condolences on your CDS2 by the way - bummer time for that to bust....

Mick,
Was the dishwasher actually broken, or did it just sound broken?
Was it on its own spur? I suspect not!
Happy New Year everyone

I purchased a Meile dishwasher which is the Rolls Royce of dishwashers and although the cost was near to four figures, it is extremely good vlaue.
My time is to precious to be spent wearing an apron and marigolds, stood in front of a sink washing and drying up dishes.
The Meile washes everything perfectly and even hot dries the utensils so as they come out glistening.
I regard it as a "must have".

My time is too precious pleeeeeeeeeeese.(Quote MP)
We are a family of 4 washing up takes mere minutes of MY valuable time a day.Just plain lazy to own a dishwasher and another example of over consumtion.
Mind you my wasted time has prevented me from the ultimate invention of free energy sources, cure for AIDS etc. Mind you MP has'nt done that with all he's extra time!
