I`m new to this board but have read it for a while. I have the chance to buy a used Naim 5 or a 5i. My question is this. Which is a better sound, the 5 with a flat cap 2 or the 5i. Thanks in advance guys. Tom

You should have posted this in 'The Hi-Fi Corner'. Adam Meredith (one of the forum adminstrators might move it there).
I much prefer the sound of 5i, but it has a limited number of inputs, and won't take on off-board power supply.
Bear in mind also that the 5i is more powerful - 50wpc, as opposed to the 5's 30wpc. The 5i is not a tweaked '5' - it has a completely different passive pre-amp and an analogue volume control, as opposed to the digital one in the '5'.
As ever; you really need to listen to the options if possible.
