Cartridge Tracking

Don't we just love cartridge set-up?
Recently I had to move my Gryodec/rega/DV17d2 about and when I came to use it I noticed quite a bit of distortion on the right channel particularly with loud voices and saxes, which I hadn't heard before. Admittedly this was all on new records (including SV pressings of pet sounds, wicker man OST and the otheriwse great Light of Saba on Honest John).
The alignment seemed ok, tracking force and anti-skate were un altered. I then bought a polaris protractor to re-set the alignment. I've tried changing anti-skate and tracking force (with shure & ortofon balances)but I'm still getting the right channel distortion.
Has anyone else had problems with the DV17d2, and any more suggestions on what to do?
Andy
PS, The guys at Walrus told me the Shure balance is far more accurate than the Ortofon, but it seems to give me a different reading depending on how thick the record is that I rest it on (the design of the gyrodec platter makes using on top of a record essential)... any comments?
