Should we ban the gutter press?

The UK has so many fine national daily newspapers that I often wonder why we tolerate the gutter press at all. The Sun, The Daily Mail etc. they all appeal to the very lowest common denominator - people who should not be allowed to vote or even breed. There is virtually no news content, the editorial comment can be understood by 10 year olds and they full of gossip about half witted so-called celebrities. Why don't we just ban them?
