Brendel's Beethoven on Alto

I picked up a budget reissue of Brendel's 4 Beethoven Popular Sonatas (Pathetique, Moonlight, Les Adieux, and Appassionata) on Alto (1016) from the early 60's Vox cycle. I remember this cycle fondly from colllege days, and was intriqued that the Alto label is run by Musical Concepts, a high end audio firm that I am familiar with (years ago I built a Hafler preamp and had it modified by Musical Concepts and it gave many years of good use). Both the playing and remastering are fantastic. I found many of Brendel's later recordings quite mannered, but there is nothing mannered about the 30 year old Brendel in these great sonatas. I was completely blown away by the sound (remastered for Alto by a UK outfit and not the Vox remastering of the early 90's). Just a heads up for Beethoven sonata lovers, as you can't go wrong with this one--and they practically give it away. I'd snap at the complete cycle if Alto gets around to it. By way of comparison I recently picked up the early 60's RCA Living Stereo hybrid recording of these same sonatas by Artur Rubenstein. Very different; perhaps lower keyed playing by the 75 year old Rubenstin, but beautiful nonetheless. Both great artists.

I can believe this would be very fine. I have a pair of Mozart Piano Concertos with Brendel on Vox, 22 in E Flat and the big one in C major [forgotten the number], and consider them as equal favourites in the music.
