DAC to Sky HD connection
Posted by: Justin9960 on 07 February 2010
Hi,
I want to connect my Naim DAC to my Sky HD box, can anyone give me any advice on Optical or Coaxial, or makes of cable and cost.
The total length is approx 2 meters.
I know Naim do a cable, but know very little about it.
Regards.
Justin

This will have some interesting & diverse replies
In my book. little no different exists between digi cables
Maybe a slight diff between optical & cable
Cost is not important (within reason) and no need to spend anything over £50, & considerably less can be found
The main thing is good quality terminal ends
I use an optical from Mark Grant, excellent 24hr service & all high quality professional grade materials
I have an RCA-RCA coax from him also & a BNC-RCA I made myself

Justin,
given the choice, with a satellite box or similar, I'd be tempted to go the optical route. This way, the box will be isolated from the DAC and the rest of the system. Always a good idea with AV gear...

Optical's fine with the Sky HD box, and besides, unless you've got a special model, they don't come with a co-ax digital output!

Thanks Gents,
Do you recommend any particular makes of Optical cable, and approx price???
Thanks.

They are all more or less the same, terminal end quality is the only thing that will really separate them, plus glass quality.
Like I said before I use one from my video system to DAC made by Mark Grant, made up to various lengths & cost about £30 per metre.
I've tried various others borrowed from friends in between various boxes & to be honest, I could not tell the diff. between any.
