Advice on wall/ceiling speakers for kitchen system

Posted by: Willie B on 13 April 2003

An imminent kitchen refurbishment is giving me the opportunity to conceal dedicated speaker cables and aerial wire in the kitchen walls and ceiling. Have any Forum members experience of Linn Discreets (wall) or Sweet Spot (ceiling) speakers? I know the sound won't be as good as "external" speakers but there are other benefits to be had and this will be a second system using a Linn all-in-one or similar.

I'm using Linn Uniks as rears in my AV setup. I have tried using them as the main speakers (as an experiment) and they sound surprisingly good! They are very unobtrusive and can be painted to match your decor, also the Linn Brakits are a good way of wall mounting them. If you are going for the Linn Classik for your kitchen system then I think that these would be ideal as this is what they were designed for.

A colleague of mine has Snell in-wall speakers in his home cinema system and they seem pretty good.

Thanks to all of you - following some research on the KEF and Linn websites I called in at my friendly local dealer - Creative Audio - and, following a discussion with Dave, decided to go for KEF Ci 130 QRs with Uni-Q drivers. These fit inside the ceiling with just the bezels protuding - I know the sound won't be as good as separate boxes but I'm hoping they are pretty good. They should be with me next week.
