Hi,
Anyone know why I'm unable to update my public profile here on the forum?
Permission to do so is not one of the "ticked" options in the personal permissions folder. Can't see why this should be so, so thoughts anyone?
Cheers,
Dave.

My one is not open for me to edit, but there is enough information on it anyway!

I just saw this thread and checked mine as I needed to update my equipment listing having just acquired an 82.
Worked fine for me.

What do you reckon to your 82 Mark? It's my favourite pre, enjoy.

Hi Gary, how are you? Not seen you on here for a while.
I'm liking the 82 very much. I thought it was a big leap forward over the 72 - a much more open window on the performance. I couldn't hear a downside so I have decided to keep it.
The real revelation came when I put a Powerline on the Hicap powering it though.
It was a different pre-amp altogether!

Good news Mark! Glad to hear that a Powerline has such a positive effect on 82/HC. Wonder if it'll do the same for 82/SC??? I hope to find out one day, when I've saved up!
Good wishes,
James

Unfortunately, I'm not keeping the Powerline just yet, James!

Dear Mark and James,
I have asked to borrow a Powerline after Christmas just to find out what it does for my antiques!
Three options to put it - on the power amp, the preamp's Hicap, or the DAC. The other leads are captive or figure of eight on the radio and the Marantz [acting as transport for the DAC].
I left till after Christmas for the simple reason that those who try it before then probably have more money than me, and so might be able to afford it if they like it, unlike me who cannot afford it either way!

Evening George
I reckon it will perform wonders on your equipment as it does not discriminate in my experience. It seems to improve everything it is connected to and the best thing is that it does not change the inherent character of the component. It just seems to allow whatever it is connected to to do it's job so much better.

Hi Mark
I'm keeping well thanks, I've not been on the forum much recently for a variety of reasons, mostly because I've been busy doing other things (climbing/walking/mountaineering etc), but also, I've bought a new front end (Linn Accurate DS) and have had my 52 sorted by Naim and I have just sort of reached a contented stage where I don't feel inclined to spent too much time on here - I'd rather just enjoy the music!
Glad you like the 82. If I am absulutely honest about things, the time I most enjoyed my music was when I was running the 82/HC. It is certainly a hugely enjoyable piece of kit.
Kind regards
Gary

I'm happy for you Gary. Has it cured all of the bass issues you seemed to be having since it was serviced then? And what was wrong exactly?

It's a long story and I wouldn't want to bore you with the full details, but a quick summary:-
We (me, wife & dealer) established the 52/SC was the problem. We borrowed another customer's 52/SC and proved that the SC was the main problem, but my 52 was also not so musical either, so off it all went to Naim for the 3rd time. We were also able to establish that the problem wasn't totally consistent and seemed to manifest itself after the amp had been powered up for several days/weeks, thus making it very difficult for Naim to diagnose. Naim couldn't find anything major wrong with it, but did replace a few bits and found a small problem in the SC where something was touching something it shouldn't have been. Anyway, I wasn't hopeful, at the time, that they'd cured the problem, but it's been back in my system now for a month and it seems to be fine, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that whatever they did has done the trick.
One thing which was interesting was that I was using the dealers 252/SC for a month whilst mine was away and when mine came back, I didn't really notice any difference, so that's allayed any urge to upgrade to the black range.
