Listening to one channel?
Posted by: silklee on 18 April 2003
Due to the arrangement in my room, i sometimes end up sitting to one side and will end up listening directly to one channel instead of sitting in the 'sweet spot'.
As times goes by, i realise that i prefer listening to one channel instead of sitting in the middle of the 2 speakers.
Does any1 have share the same feeling? Or am i just weird? or is it my room boom problem that is causing me to feel this way?

That is very weird. Are you sure that your speaker cable are correctly connected so that your two speakers are in phase?

Give Silklee some room here, after all it was audio legend that Ivor himself listened to only 1 'Brik with a mono preamp driving a "3-pack".
I was on a Linn factor tour and asked my guide about this. He said it was rubbish, but you never know...
Legend told that he was never a fan of stereo "imaging" since it is all false anyway and prefered to have his music come from one speaker. Single speaker listening room and all that. Think about it.
Makes a good legend, but I doubt that it's really true.
Wonder if he still listens to 'Briks at home... Linn has never bettered them IMhO.

I still prefer sitting in the middle....only when the volume goes up a certain level (above 8o'clock volume on my Naims).
At lower volumes however, actually preferred sitting by the PC side. Don't ask me why but I do find it enjoyable. No, it's definitely not background cos music's still frightfull real and involving. Just that it is presented as if I am sitting far behind one corner in a music lounge.
