The finish is is superb, much better than the CDS2.

Walnut DBLs looked superb.

The spectacularly beatiful Neat Ultimatum MF7s. Sounded pretty good too, but I really need to hear them with better amps...the Stealths are pretty poor.

All the kit is on the Neat designed stand, which looked fantastic, although expensive at £550 a layer. The turntable is a Well Tempered Super with a Dynavector 507 arm.

What an awesome piece of engineering!

John,

I thought the MF7's were gorgeous. I also thought the ECS amps were great - very fast and tuneful. One mans meat and all that I guess Smile

Have you got an uncompressed pic of the MF7's you could e-mail me at all?

Cheers,

Steve

PS - M*n* are not involved with the amps anymore. They didn't even design or build them apparently.

CDX2, 252 on Hutter. It looks much better in the smaller custom size that I use.

SL2s in a smart light wood finish. The system (CDS3, 252, 250) was sounding a little bright, but very fast and detailed.

Steve,
I spent a lot of time in the room because I am seriously interested in the MF5s or MF7s and even had an after hours dem with a few other people. My feeling was that there was a slight softness and opaqueness about the sound which I hope is attributable to the Rose preamp (which cost only £800) or the ECS amps. What's your email address, I mail you the picture right now.

Another Dynavector arm, this time on an Avid turntable.

Quite like a telephone, but less musical. But there are lots of excuses -- the room was stufffed with other speakers, the stands and supports for the electronics were possibly questionable, and the Rega 3/Epos M12 system in the next room (next pic up) was working better than it had any right to.

John, I think that fine-looking Hutter was courtesy of Dynaudio, whose speakers now seem not to woob, but have got uglier, IMHO. I enjoyed that system.

Best;

Mark

John Channing and I went to show on Saturday, and I felt four rooms stood out for sheer musicality:

1. Upstairs Naim - CDS3, 552, either 250, 300 or 500 into DBLs. The 500 DBL combination was breathtaking, but I must insist that next year Paul Darwin lets me play some of my music which will appeal to a broader audience. The CDS3 is magnificent, I think I'll have one please! The 250 to 300 difference was not as mindblowing as the 300 to 500 change. The new 250 is seriously good for the money IMO.

2. Neat - CDS2, Rose Pre-amp, ECSteath, Ultimatum MF7. These utilmatums are very good speakers, different in character to any Naim speaker but a fantastic alternative. Does speed, volume and power in abundance. Well worth checking out. Also Bob let me play some of my music which made the speakers appeal to a wider audience.

3. Downstairs Naim - CDS3, 252, 250, SL2 I must insist that next year Richard Dane lets me play some of my music which will appeal to a broader audience. A very fine sound.

4. Dynaudio - CDX2, 252, 250, Dynaudio something or other. Not as good as the Neats or the Naims but very fine indeed. I must insist that the exhibitor lets me play some of my music which will appeal to a broader audience.

oh, and I finally met Stallion....

I really enjoyed the AE1's III for the size of these things there was huge presence and soundstage. The music they were playing was a Naim label CD of Antonio Forcione Live which I purchased downstairs from Naim in the foyer. Excellent speakers and fantastic music
