New camouflage for the British Army
Posted by: Tarquin Maynard - Portly on 05 May 2010
Now issued to 40 Commando Royal Marines, previously used by Special Forces.
By all accounts its pretty darn good. Expected to be rolled out Army-wide 2012, or on deployment to Afghanistan.

It must have been issued to the police round here as I sure as hell can't see any on the streets.

The politicians in my patch have been testing it for the last month, damn its good, they don't even leave footprints.

At the time the new camoflage pattern was launched a few months ago, it was explained that it is intended as a multi-terrain pattern. The problem with the long-standing DPM (disruptive pattern material) so associated with UK Forces is that the two distinct colourways, green and brown, stand out like a sore thumb on the 'wrong' terrain.
The new pattern is a 'jack of all trades' that is not perfect in any terrain but effective in most terrains. (There is still special white kit for snow/arctic!)
Not only will this be - most importantly - a better aid for our troops on the ground, it will also save the taxpayer money by not having to double-up on kit.

Some other new patterns.

Courtesy of Les Barker:
I don't know where I've put it,
I've looked, but I've not found it yet.
It's somewhere in the garden,
I can't find my camouflage net.
It's a sort of greeny colour;
Very much like the lawn;
It's somewhere in the garden
But I don't know where it's gorn.
You can buy 'em in packs of a dozen;
It's not long since I had a set;
You just put 'em down and they vanish;
I can't find my camouflage net.
I ordered 'em last year from Wakefields';
I had to go back and remind 'em.
They said they hadn't forgotten;
They said they just couldn't find 'em.
It's a good job you don't have to feed 'em;
I suppose they'd make a good pet;
Except they don't come when you call 'em;
I can't find my camouflage net.
I draped one over my Transit;
That's when the problems began;
I'd go back to the shop for another;
I would but I can't find the van.
It's only a bloody tarpaulin,
But I can't find the little green get;
I wish they'd make 'em bright orange;
I can't find my camouflage net.

In fact if it were not for the DMP, I would have said he was a "septic" one of them

Use of a TLA should be banned.

The first camo patterns were created by artists that later became pop artists like Ellsworth Kelly. I guess the regular guys couldn't see natural or irregular patterns so they had to get someone with "artistic" talent to do it for them.

SBS - Special Boat Squadron - Royal Marines (like the SAS only better swimmers)
MTP - Multiple Terrain Pattern (all the rage as long as you have a matching bergen).

New armour with new patterns.

good to have all-rounder camo. I trust they'd be deployed in different garb in alpine environs during winter...
