Little radios
Posted by: Top Cat on 08 February 2002
Hi folks.
Was just in my dealer's, squaring up for my new cables (which arrived yesterday) and noticed they are selling a little radio, a mono thingie, in a wood finish. Can't remember the name, but it was around £100. As I'm looking for a stand-alone radio for the kitchen and bedroom (portable enough to shift as required) I thought it would be ideal, but before I start getting carried away, I wondered if anyone had any alternative suggestions for a relatively inexpensive radio, LW not required, Stereo not required, ability to sound good very much required.
Anyone help?

Having heard the tivoli on a dealers shelf recently i thought it necessary to say: Yes, the Tivoli does, as some have said here, sound bloated, not much prat, and so on.
Anyone actually listened to a Sony ICF-SW22? This is a hikers sized radio, about the size of a packet of cigarettes, and has more Prat. than any other portable i have tried - Toshiba, Hacker, Grundig Yaytch boy . This radio has real speed; notes start and stop 'really good'. Unfortunately this radio was imported from sinagapore - and is not available in UK, but there is a bigger brother version here - don't know if it is any good. Can't believe, that apart from looks/convenience, that the Tivoli has any following at all!!
cheers, in crit. mode, ...

Does anyone know where I can buy one of these radios in London. I urgently need to get one as a Christmas present.

I have the same one as you have Jun! The nicest combination of colors to my eyes. I really like the sound of the Tivoli, but the reception is quite bad in my house. Each time I approach the radio, it starts to disturb. Is it the cheap antenna, the placement or is mine broke?

John, I have seen them in the free leaflets/brochures that come with my newspapers at £79.99 plus £5 for next day delivery. But can't get hold of the blasted leaflets/brochures when I need one. HTH

My office is just of Oxford Street and so on occasion I look around the big John Lewis Store.
They always seem to have the Model One in stock, in a selection of colours, so it might be worth a try.
