CDI vs CD5

Has anybody done a comparison of a CDI against a CD5.
CDI's look like they might be a good second hand buy - does anybody have a view on this.
thanks,
Nick

I have owned both players and have to say they are quite different. The CDI plays with more power and attack, as where the CD 5 is far more subtle. It's a matter of taste I guess, but to me I think the CDI rocks best!

While we're not exactly overburdened with replacement transports for the CDI, we can still service units for the time being. Contact Mark or Sheila in our service department if you have any further queries on this.

I agree with John, I found my CDI preferable to a CDX when I tested some time ago. I'm hopefully going to a CDS2 to get a worthwhile improvement (not heard a CD5 or CDX2 though).

Nick,
I listen to both and can honestly say that I prefer the CDI with CDM9pro drive. My CDI was in service last year to get the new drive and it was a quite good upgrade. Even against a CD3.5/HC and /SC the CDI was better.
I'll listen to the CDS3 next week and hope it fits into my system.

I changed from a CD5 with Re capped Hicap to CDI last year. To be honest it was a bit of a gamble, but i must say i have never been happier with the sound of CD, its just sooo much more natural. The CD5 has more clout in the bottom end (with hicap) but the CDI wins every where else.
I use it with 102 Hicap napsc and 250 and the differences were not slight.

Agreed with the CDi!
Replaced my Meridian with it after auditioning against CD5 and CDX (but I have always wanted one anyway
). Also excellent VFM s/h. Condition must be in it's best i.e. serviced and nextel ring wear.
