Recommendations on a new TV

How about the 37inch Panasonic Viera Plasma. Fits your price range and is a great picture.

I'd firmly accept that LCD 6 months ago didn't stand a chance against plasma - that was then - this is now. See one (and a well set up one at that) before you part with your cash - and trust YOUR eyes... not our opinions

Mind you - this should help you a lot - only Panasonic make a 37" plasma (all the others are 42" or more), and if you look at this thread and my suggestion then only Sharp make an LCD worth considering - that leaves you a two horse race... should save you some shopping time.

I bought a Panasonic Plasma in September. It has fantastic picture quality. Never use the audio side as I cahhnel it through my 2 channel naim with excellent results. The matching HDD/DVD recorder works a treat with it too.

You can get the Sharp LC37XD1E for a good price here. I will be buying the 42" from there soon.

phil, i know mike thinks sharp lcd are the best around, but take a look at the av-forums there seems to be quite a few problems with them, banding, buzzing, dead or stuck pixels, etc, although to be fair the people with the ones with no problems seem very impressed with them

Mike doesn't think anyone else should specifically buy a Sharp.

But Mike does think that it's essential to see all the best options before one parts with one's folding

Mike does, however, get occasionally fed up with folk savaging his recommendations without the benefit of actualling seeing the offending article working and judging it for themselves!

Obviously I will let my eyes decide on which one to buy, but it's interesting to see what forum members own or would buy, there's normally someone else that's done all the hard work in researching the best hence my thread for advice, I don't normally post here, I'm a 2 channel freak

I am going through this painful process too - too much choice, size, make lcd or plasma etc. I reckon I can get away with a 37" and the plasmas I have seen were a more natural picture and better definition than LCD, however the Sharp that Mike recommends is higher resolution than the ones I compared it to, however you can pick up a panansonic plasma for £300 less than the Sharp. The only way is to compare side by side but I reckon I am going for the plasma. Happy viewing!

I went to a well known nationwide Naim dealer and they demo'd a plasma against an LCD. No contest for me - plasma every time. So I bought the Panasonic 37" Viera. Reckon you might be able to get one from JL for £800. What's not to like!
