Ask Blue Peter to put it to a public vote

Raised Christian, but pretty neutral at this time, I don't think I would name it Jesus. Therefore, I'm not sure I can blame the Sudanese for being mad about the one named Muhammed.

That's a good point. But you wouldn't be arrested and potentially whipped for doing it though.

I'd call it "Actually quite a well thought out game to encourage children to use their imaginations, accept ownership, think about their experiences and then document them, in the meantime giving them some life experience through a free and unrestricted electoral voting system in which they can select their preferred mascot title, allowing for a majority vote to provide the result and demonstrating a democratic process in action, which should show the older members of the community a thing or two about their crude attempts to manipulate and subvert the nations citizens in the name of cultural belief, who however then say 'Bollox to that' and give you a real life lesson in organised state bullying and the threat of a damn good flogging besides."

Given that the Teddy Bear is named after an American President I am surprised that such an object would exist in an Islamic country

Withdraw all aid, help, expertise, support. Let the bastards starve when they're not killing each other.

Don't think I would call it Bob, then! When I was little I called mine Ted, with all the imagination that allowed me to call my budgie Ladybird, and my own sheepdog Fred!

I used to call my girl friend's father Bill The B*sta**! My neigbour had a spaniel that he called W** as in "oriental gentleman." Could go on, but I might get a thrashing from somewhere!

"A part of a Western plot against islam" , just as well there's islamic plot against the west though. At least we tend to plot with words rather than bombs and planes.

I understood that it was the pupils who named the bear.

So the authorities are punishing the wrong person.

All the kids who chose Mohammed should be flogged within an inch of their lives so that the religious bigots can prove to God what good Muslims they are.

What worries me are the reports of the large no of men outside the prison Beying for the teacher to be murdered.

What a wonderful example of a religion extolling its values of love compassion and tolerance to all.

Another example of extreme bigotry.

Earlier this month a Saudi woman was sentenced to 200 lashes and 6 months in jail (increased on appeal) after she was gang raped by seven men. She was guilty of being in a private place with men to whom she was unrelated.

This story created some headlines, but not as many as poor teddy. Nothing of course to do with the fact that the Saudi Royal family were visiting the UK shortly afterwards.

The answer to the original question is this, if you spend vast wodges of cash buying our defence equipment you can call Teddy what you like.

Bruce

you must remember that women are appalling temptresses and as a result men are so overcome with lust that not even their God can help them overcome their primitive urges so the women must be raped.

It is not mens fault.

It is entirely the womens fault that this happens.

So women must be accompanied at all times by a male family memeber and must also be modestly dressed ie fully bagged up so that the men are relieved from their frailties and not forced into temptation.

This is happening all over the so called civilised world where women have equality to men under law.

But in these countries so that inter religious relations are maintained women can be subject to this kind of appalling injustice in countries with laws to enshrine womens rights.

When will western society wake up to this appalling behaviour going on within its borders.

I guess the woman got into the car because the Saudis do not allow women to drive themselves.

This has absolutely nothing to do with any reasonable interpretation of Islam, it is about fanatacism and abuse of power.

I always point out at this point that Islam was one of the first religions to actually preach respect and deference to women, it placed their role and importance at a considerably higher level than the society at the time was used to (where women were traded like livestock).

Respect for women is actually an islamic tenet. The idea of equality for women would have been fantastical when the koran came into existence.

This incident just goes to show how uncomfortable democracy sits on a bed of Islam.

Lets hope Mrs Gibbons is in the comfy chair wing of the prison and will be released very soon, along with the bear who was born in Guangzhou which does of course means he's Chinese. The Chinese who have recalled their ambassador from Khartoum are accusing the Sudanese Government of an attack on all Chinese soft plush toys and they want him released unharmed.

Given the genocidal record of the bastards in Khartoum its high time the Foreign office gets tough with the Sudanese ambassador by withdrawing tea and biscuits on his next visit.

Mine is called Beer (yes 2 ee's).

I found it rather strange that we give our children stuffed versions of animals that are actually dangerous to humans while frightening them with stories about wolfes, that are not.
