xpsII/supercapII/250.2 fuses
Posted by: Regis on 03 March 2005
I've purchased some isoclean 'audiophile' fuses that are directional. Which way should they go in the aforementioned components? Up, towards the top; down, towards the bottom; or some combination? Can anybody tell me for the correct position?
Thanx.

I wouldn't advise you to make your intentions public on this issue, or run the risk of invalidating the manufacturer's warranty.
There are specific instructions about case fuses in the supplied manuals, and Naim have been vociferous about non-standard case fuses, in the past.
John.

There is nothing 'non-standard' at all about these fuses. They are rated the same as the oem fuses. They r gold plated & have a directional arrow indicating the current flow. That's it. I picked up the fuses as a part of some isoclean outlets for the dedicated lines I put in downstairs. I don't see how this could posibly be an 'issue', I simply want to know the direction of the current flow thru the fuse, up or down as it relates to the xpsII, superII, & 250.2. Surely somebody can provide such info.... even Naim themselves.

Because sometimes different kit uses different rating of fuses. You want to make sure you use the same rating of fuses.
tick.. tick.. tick.. ( the sound of countdown before Adam delete this entire thread )

Please kuma, I don't understand how a 5amp 20mm fuse can be anything but a 5amp 20mm fuse.
So after living w/140/hicap/72 for eight yrs. I've spent two yrs. building my cds3/252/et all & simply want to drop a directional fuse into the case, which way does the current flow? I'm not talking treason here.

i've never looked inside but since it is designed to protect the internal electronics i think you can follow the path from the ac plug through the fuse and then to the rest of the unit. i am not a licenced electician and i have started fires before so...good luck

They are both verticle & parrellel so I don't percieve any directional path to indicated current flow direction to follow.
If I've broached a sensitive subject I apologize.
Perhaps I can ask an additional question. As I mentioned above I basically have two seperate Naim systems. We recently added an addition so I would like to have both up and running.
The actual power cord for each unit, are there any markings or such that indicates which cord matches to which unit? I've managed to mix em up & never having taped any identification or such when I originally puchased each. I now find I can only guess as to which goes w/which and I believe one is longer than the others.
Home improvement, what a joy....;-(

If you use directional fuses on AC won't you need a system to turn them round 180° 60 times a second?

24k gold plated contacts, claims to increase transparency, details, airy spacious sound stage, extends top & bottom octaves. Recommended to be replaced about every 6 to 12 months.
I've got 2 5A & 1 6.3A for the 250. Guess I'll flip a coin until somebody can give me a 'more informed' idea.
The 3 dedicated lines probably need to burn in a few days anways....
Stevea, only if one was straddling the equator. ;-)

Regis,
Call NANA and get an 'informed' opinion.

kuma, you are right, of course.
By the way, I've got a pr. of rosewood Vitos in my upstairs living room. That 'treble forward' works well w/the satellite reciever, very clear & 'easy to hear' w/video sources.
Other speakers include proac 1sc, castle conway 3, the 'vitos', & a pr. of daedelus da-1s I took delivery on 2 wks ago.
Thinking of running some 'valves' thru the 252, what do you think?
The cds3 sounds superb thru the primaluna prologue 2.

Naim preamps works great with my single-ended triode monoblocks. I haven't tried any other valve amps to tell you what works. ( bearing in mind that I do not care for most valve gear )
oh.. i've been trying out a valve phono stage via Nait.
it's quite nice. It enhances what's already there rather than being a *hindrance*.

If you must change fuses then you should try it both ways round and let your ears tell you which is best.
