Simly naturall music! The bass is not boomy but fast, tight and deep, usually hard to reproduce. Stunning and the best speaker I haven't heard.

Incredible, easily the best I have heard. I hope my speaker search results in something at least close.

Hi,
the sound of the DBL is quite simply beautiful, it`s hard to finish the listening session! Bass and treble are excellent but midrange is not of this world!

A friend of mine have one pair of NBLs and one pair of DBLs and we really thought the NBLs were very good until replacing them with the DBLs! NBLs are good but sounds like a speaker, a VERY good speaker but a speaker. The DBLs are in a totally different leauge and totally blows (all?) other speakers away.
I might be a mullet if I had to choose as I think my Nait1/DBLs have qualitys the 52/250/SBLs didn't have.
The 552/500 into DBLs are not bad though....

DBLs are ruthlessly revealing. Many recordings which are acceptable on other speakers sound terrible on DBLs as you become painfully aware of how compressed or badly mixed they are. I am quite a fan of the DBLs. They really need a good hifi to work well as they are as revealing of the electronics that precede them as they are of the source material that is played. They're big speakers and need a reasonably large room to show their best in.
Having said all of that, these are magnificent speakers to listen to. For most of the time (if you close your eyes!) you're not really aware that you're listening to a really large speaker - then WHAM!! Dyamics and bass slam. Speed, lack of compression, dynamics etc., but without the colouration that limits many other big speakers. DBLs - musical, fun and refreshing.
Noel.

Also Scale, no one has mentioned Scale. With other speakers you are listening to a recording with DBL's it is sort of like a beleivable performance like when you go to a concert. Also tha lack of dynamic compression is unbeleibavle.
I agree with Erik, I would go mullett first.
I am wondering though, are NBLs close enough?

Like a flatulent gay (African) elephant that's had an "accident" with an industrial vacuum cleaner.

Hello,
I had DBLs (SNr.8XXXX) for about half a year and sold them again.-
They are very good speakers for people listening to Rock/Pop or Music as background (when taking a nice meal).
But I am listening to music mostly attentively - and this a lot of classical stuff.
For my tastes the DBLs were too muffled on high frequencies and give not enough details.
I am now since one and a half year very, very happy with the sound of my Audio Physic Avanti 3. If I have some money free to spend I will go for the Subwoofer Minos to go even deeper and more controlled into depths than was possible with the DBLs.
To explain: The sound in the HF (Guitar, Violin) is not very detailed e.g. Flagolet- tones sound nearly like normal ones and that shouldn`t be.
Still you get a very round sound - music seems very pleasant.
As for bass, with my NAP 250 in passive configuration they still were giving me a Sheer heart attack, when listening to Queens song.
Pink Floyds "Money" came out very good, still the feeling for the stereo effects could have been a fraction more spaced.
Topping in Bass: For very deep organ registers, reproduction is not perfect (but that may have been because I did not have enought power (even with the pair of 135s I had too) With a 6pack active probably they would have been distinct enough in the very deep organ notes to satisfy my expectations (The Minos did).
Hopefully my explanations help. Still the DBL is an exellent speaker - but to my personal taste it is not perfect - so there is room to compare it with other - equally not perfect- speakers and you may choose, which of the imperfections suits you best.
Enjoy your music

For me, DBLs manage to play all kind of music. I listen a lot to pianosonatas and chamber music and for me the DBLs really manage to show the inner feeling in that kind of music. Also big symphonies and live performances of rock comes effortless and with scale so for me they are the ultimat speakers.
BUT, they are very demanding for the source and placement. It took a long while to tune them to right position and also the mains and rack made a big deal.
Dev, NBLs are good but still reminde You of speakers. I think I could live with them, but with a memory of the DBLs being superior in every aspect.
